Dash Pad Replacement
I left my car in long term parking for a week where the weather dipped below freezing. I think it was more than the 15+ year old dash pad could take. It developed a HUGE crack from the right speaker to the steering wheel.
I'm debating recovering the pad or even replacing it but wanted to ask a quick poll of the NorCal membership: What is the level of effort on removing and replacing the dash pad? I'm guessing it's pretty simple...

Mine too just cracked...Bought it about 2 years ago for $125 on Ebay. I'd never do that again. They're just too fragile for shipping. This was the third one I had purchased from Ebay and the first that didn't show up cracked. I'm considering just upholstering it in some nice leather fabric. I undersyand they sell them at www.classicindustries.com but very expensive...... I just checked, $329 before tax & shipping

I'll post some up when and as I do it. I'm going to keep it simple, using about 1/4" of foam then the leather material. I have to plan the speaker grills though. I may just use adhesive to pull the material into the grooves then punch small holes through the material. Has anyone ever seen or used one of those dash caps? The molded kind that fit over the dash. They run about $125.

One of my old friends bought one years ago for his old '82 'bird. From a distance outside the car it looked fine, but inside it never looked or fit right to me. Hopefully the quality has improved some since it has been about ten years since he sold that car, but I decided from that one to never use one. I would rather find a nice one and put one of the Dash-mats on it to protect it from the sun.
