help me, cant start the car.
I can't get the engine to crank when I turn the key to start. I did apply 12volts to the starter and it does start manually (hot wired).
I am not sure if I wired it correctly. I have 2 big gauge red wires powered 12volt consistantly to the interior of the car through the c100 connector (the one at the drivers side firewall)
and I ran the heavy gauge purple wire to the s-terminal on the starter. No go.
Can anyone give me some tips? Did I do it wrong? I tried the other remaining wires to the S terminal as well, no luck. The heavy gauge pink wire does get 12volts under start and run. so when I turn the key to on, it cranked the starter, we definitely don't want that.
what else can I check? Or who wants to look at how their starter is wired for me?

Re: help me, cant start the car.
Do you still have the factory starter relay in place? There is a yellow wire that comes off of the ignition switch, and it is only energized when the key is turned to start. That wire supplies the relay with power, then the relay closes and sends power through the gear selector switch, then to the purple wire which goes to the starter. You know the starter works, so maybe you wired your starter relay incorrectly?

Re: help me, cant start the car.
where is this starter relay located? under the hood or under the dash? if it was under the hood, chances are its no longer their. if its under the dash, it has not been tampered with, but has sat for over a year..

Re: help me, cant start the car.
It should be under the dash, and plugs into the body harness. Ultimately you need to figure out how to get the yellow wire that comes out of the ignition switch to supply the starter power where the factory purple wire attaches. So, using the diagram I posted, assuming your starter relay and gear selector switch are still intact (so you can't start the car in gear), you just need to run a wire from the gear switch to the starter.

He's just mad that his anti-smog machine took a crap on him cuz their is no dummy light to tell you when you hit 300 degrees.
Back on topic-
Jeremy, does it help to know that my trunk switch does not work as well? I know this is powered in conjunction with the starter relay.

Re: help me, cant start the car.
I checked it out, I found the starter relay, its a bitch to get to, I want to assume its ok, I should probe the ignition switch for 12volts where the yellow wire exits.
If I get too frustrated I am gonna thirdgenify it and install a push button start :\

Re: help me, cant start the car.
The hatch release has it's own power source and relay, so I'm not sure what that green/white circuit 916 wire does. Possibly something that prevents it from opening while in gear or while starting. It should be easy to get the hatch release working once the car starts... so I'd focus on that first.

Re: help me, cant start the car.
Travis,
You can always get the key start wire as it come out of the steering column for you power to the starter motor. Sounds as if your not using most of the factory wiring for the ECM so it will not matter that your bypassing it. Just run that to a starter relay and you will be good to go.

Yeah, I was under the impression you ripped all that factory stuff out. It would be very, very simple to bypass the VATS if that is what you want to do. You just need to get that start signal to the starter, as said above.

Looks are completely subjective so I'll do you a favor and pretend you didn't say that either. As for MPG.....19 city and 28 highway EPA rating for the V6 mustang I believe? Absolutely fantastic, seeing as you would be embarassed by a stock LS1 camaro almost a decade older rated at 18 city and 27 highway.

Hey Jeremy, I disconnected the plug from my ignition switch and probed the yellow wire, under cranking, I get no voltage. Time for a new ignition switch?

Besides this ignition switch issue, (waiting on jeremy's response.) I come to find out my accel gen 6 ecm is missing, Probably went missing a while back when my tools were stolen, never noticed it gone until I looked for it last night. So, Car will sit a while longer until I decide on what to do. Maybe splice my wireharness into a megasquirt system? I will be found lurking the boards over at msefi.com...

As for the ECM.. damn dude, that sucks. If I were in your shoes I'd probably get a Megasquirt to get the car up and running.

Re: help me, cant start the car.
Both red wires leading into the ignition switch has constant 12volt. I will run outside and check the plug leading into the switch for 12 volt as well. I am confident it is however since All accessories inside the car work as intended now.
I am thinking megasquirt as well, I am reading alot about it. Would not be hard to repin my accel harness into a MS box. Be a month away before I buy the 421 dollar unit however.

To bring closure to this thread, I tried everything and Can't figure it out. So I installed a pushbutton.
Is this considered *******/thirdgenish?
or cool because all the new hi-tech cars have it?
I think steve would appreciate it.

Travis,
So update. Where are you at? I know you said you needed an ECM. Is the car turn over and everything else ready? Did you get your stainless Steel ducting done?

I like the push button setup bish, looks really clean, like it was built there from the factory
I would still someday fix it right though, just for the heck of it, but you know how I am For now it works
