Glad to hear the tranny will get fixed. Ya, I need to drop my tank also. I am picking up my new fuel tank this weekend. Also will be getting a new fuel pump and sending unit soon, within another week or so. Hope to have it all in by early or mid next month. I am going to replace everything I can get my hands on when the tank is dropped since it's a pain to drop it. Good luck Eric, hope everything works out. Should be seeing you guys soon for my smog.

Shocks and Springs I will be holding off on. Mainly just trying to tackle the fuel system. Thanks for hooking me up with the smog.
I know what you mean about not having enough money, don't worry though. It will all work out in time.

How does Sonora county exempt cars from smog testing?

Congrats man! My smog check came in 5 mos ago and I decided not to test her. I knew she wasn't going to pass because of the way she was running.
I labeled her as a non runing vehicle. So, the only way to fix this problem is as follows:

New GM 383/ported heads/superram
T56 tranny.

I think once I am done, I will pass smog ;-)

not necessarily, a motor change has nothing to do with how smog will turn out if your emissions equipment is not working properly, belive me ive seen some piles pass with flying colors, as long as your are in fuel control you can get your car to pass smog...

I work at a smog shop so i see this stuff all day long, what did/are you going to fail. and you might try getting a pretest done.

When I retire from Hawaii I was planning to relocate in AZ instead of CA just to avoid the smog rituals, but now that it appears there are exemptions based on location in CA, I need to reconsider.

Please tell me more about where I could live in CA and not be required to smog-check.

the only exempt places are the middle-of-no where places. thats why they dont require smogging every 2 years, cuz the population is like 10.

Yes, that is true..I was just trying to be sarcastic. I was going to do the engine upgrade anyway...hehehe.
Yes, the hardest part will be the computer programming so that it does pass smog. I hope I can find a great shop to tune her.

Anyone have any web links so I can search for specifics to make some reasonable future plans?

I always thought smog control in CA was absolute if the car was newer than ummm, 1976? -- that even if someone lived in the middle of Death Valley, their car had to be smog-checked every year or two.

The level of smog-testing depends on the severity of pollution in an area, not the population density. So, in "change of ownership" areas the vehicle doesn't get smogged every couple of years, but cops can still hassle owners for non-compliance when they see a '76-up car on the road with a blower, wheelie bars and parachute. Guess I'll go on to AZ, where vehicles outside of densely populated areas are completely exempt.

Here's the info and site:

http://smogcheck.ca.gov/stdPage.asp?...gram_Areas.htm

Areas of the State

All areas of California require Smog Check inspections when a vehicle changes ownership or is registered for the first time in California. Most areas also require testing every two years, at the time of registration renewal. The Smog Check program divides the state into four areas, with different requirements for each:

Enhanced Areas: These areas do not meet federal or state air quality standards for ozone and are California's smoggiest urbanized areas. Biennial Smog Checks are required here. Thirty six percent (36%) of the vehicles in these areas must have their biennial Smog Checks performed at Test-Only stations.

Partially Enhanced Areas: These areas were opted into the enhanced program by the local air pollution control district/air quality management district. Although similar to the Enhanced areas, no vehicles in a Partially Enhanced area are directed to have their biennial Smog Checks performed at Test-Only stations.

Basic areas: Vehicles in these less-smoggy or less populated areas must have biennial testing at licensed test-and-repair stations.

Change of Ownership areas: These more rural areas of the state require emissions testing only when a vehicle changes ownership or is registered for the first time in California.

and thus, less population= less pollution.

what are you talking about california sucks *** only thing i love about it is, its moderate weather not too cold not to hot, alot of wrecking yards around, and a close by track, lots of businesses, and the bitches everything else sucks ***

the demanding, ivading, stupid laws, the stupid pigs, the taxes, oh the people, and the immigration.

sacramento is one of the highest in the nation for raising home prices= cost of living, also #1 for final or first destination for immigration only thing this means is alot of people who dont speak english and htis just really irritates me i welcome them to the country but please speak my language. i eventually want to move out of ca

How about naming places that are "better" and why?
No point in just stating negatives if you don't have a solution.
Stupid pigs/laws/people will be everywhere you go.

I for one enjoy the weather and being near an ocean.
Everything I need is here.
And when I say here, I mean Sac, screw So-cal.

Since you're leaving Will, can we have one more little meet to say good bye? Though I can't speak as an adult, I think sacramento is okay, like del said, it's got almost everything you need, more expensive though. Has its ups and downs, right?

I am moving to Northern Idaho, Coeur D Alene is the city, it's east of Spokane Washington. My father just sold his business and house in CA and moved up there. He bought me and my girlfriend a new house for one thing. Also, no smog for the cars, everything is cheaper up there, taxes, insurance, gas, etc. The average price of a home is $135,000. There is about 70,000 people in the imediate area, very spread out though, I love the country and rural areas. Jobs and pay are very similar to here, real estate is going crazy up there and that's what I want to get into, plus my dad knows people and that's how I am getting the hook up. Oh, the weather is cold and some snow during the winter, 90's during the summer. I will have to park my car during the winter which is fine with me because that's what I want to do with that car some day anyway. I will be getting a nice truck for the winter, 4x4, my girlfriends front wheel drive will be fine for her, not that much snow, plus they do salt and sand and plow the roads. Anyway, shall I go on, I think not. I am going to be getting rid of CFI and getting a Edlebrock Multi-Point system, etc, can't wait. We should for sure have a meet before I leave, I will let you guys know some exact dates by next week for sure, it will be no later than April 30 I know that.

I corrected my last post, you are right of course, it's east of Spokane Washington, sorry about that. I am going to miss all of you guys too. I think I am the only TGO member in Northern Idaho, oh well, I will come visit, don't worry, at least I will still be on the boards. No worries about the salt hurting my car, she will never see the rain or snow when I am up there, strictly summer car only.

Well of course ya can't pass up a situation like that.
No reason for you to stay here if your pops' is gone and taking advantage of the lower cost of living there.
Your brothers and girl don't mind uprooting to potatoville?

Actually not all of us are going to Idaho. My younger brother who is 8, and my sister and her husband are the only other people going up there besides me and my girl. I will still have an older brother and his girl and another sister who are staying here in CA. My girl is actually very excited about moving. For one she wants to get away from her drama filled family, and she can't wait to have her own house.
