Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

That Sucks!!

My dads house had water to the ceiling of the basement and about 4" or more on the first floor. I keep the Camaro in his garage and water got so high in there I found water in the ashtray. I haven't had any time to really look it over or anything yet but I think it's totaled and this is the first car I ever owned

Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

My condolences go out to anyone affected by hurricane Sandy in this manner.

I live in VA and while we didn't get hit bad over here, I was FULLY prepared to crank the motor in my Z and brave the storm to get to high ground in the event of a flood.

Sorry for your losses, hope everything turns out ok and you get back on your feet fast. I only lost power for a few days and I thought that was bad however I always thought of the people who lost everything and I found out someone I work with lost basically lost everything.

Sorry to hear about the your losses, my heart goes out to everyone effected. Next pay check I plan to send a donation, looking into the best way to do it. I want to make sure the money all goes to people effected by Sandy and nowhere else.

Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

Ted, so sorry to hear of your losses. Life can deal some bad hands but you have the whole family safe and that counts for all of it. I know personally how these natural disasters can cripple people and in time things get better. We lost family in the Joplin tornado and it is a hard road but count you blessings of what you still have and time will tell next moves. I wishy were closer, I would come help and hopefully people will be there for you.

Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

up date, as far as parts and my tools go they are just in a pile more worried about saving the house ... dont want mold was able to pick up some heaters and fans and try to get things dryed out. all sheetrock , insulation sub floor and anything wet was removed and tossed out from whats called living space... still need to remove most of the sheetrock from the garage there is just parts and tools everywhere, insurance told me it will be 30 days before i get payed on my suburban and 40 days before they pay off the yukon and send us whats left over so i can use it to get the wife another one, what a pain in the ***, wife has been really upset, almost out of money, credit cards are maxed and she lost all of the kids christmas gifts she allready bought, we will make it but its looking like i will not be able to live in the house for 5 months,
a fellow third gen nut from another state sent me a gift card for home depo, and another member who stopped to help picked up some plastic totes garbage bags, plastic gloves and work gloves boy what a help that was, and dont forget my dads house we have not been allowed to see it yet its in ortley beach, not sure what we will find when we are able to go over there, i know i am just a small fish in a big pond but its horrible, mostly for the kids, play tools, all of the beach stuff, the buggie and all buckets, shovels, rakes ect.., my cars, tools and some of the parts lost can be found again but the kids lost all the old steel tonka toys that were mine as a kid. and the other little things like the kids little tikes picknic table, squrit guns, the really big thind is the swing set, in time it will all be replaced, just like the tools.
any help world be great still have alot of clean out garage and mobile attic and i have not touched all the crap thats all over the backyard that washed up, got a full 2 days the clean the back \yard but thats the last thing on the list of what needs to get done,
i am located in toms river new jersey
any and all help welcome. even if its just moral support,

Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

Count your blessings, we know of quite a few people in Howard Beach alone that went to try and move their cars from the street to the higher driveways to save them from being destroyed entirely because they had about three to four feet of water covering them when the wind suddenly knocked down some power lines and they all got electrocuted and died. Homes and cars can be replaced, but people can't be, so consider yourself lucky...

We bought and are remodeling a 2800 sq ft Victorian- it's amazing how much you do learn, especially doing it yourself. Wish I lived closer- I'm really good painting- I've done it all myself in our house.

Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

getting there, couple minor set backs.. township with the outside yard gave me some crap about the car parts, flooded furniture as well as the 3 foot high grass in back yard, well with some help and 2 days worth of time that could have been spent inside its all clean.
back top update on house, 4 of the 6 doors are installed, the garage fire door and the furnace doors both had to be ordered and they are 6 weeks out been 4 weeks now,
electrical is 96% done, need to have outside lights installed around back sliding door and drop down light for the front door, and a hard wired it smoke & carbon detector upstairs, need to be code compliant
all paint has been done downstairs and garage, now working on all trim work, and painting what doors that have been installed, need to pick out door handles yet, insurance company told us to clean them, that's not gonna to work,
plumber is complete done with everything he needed to due,
now we need to start looking at carpet, not yet but soon, will wait 2 more weeks until the doors are all in and all trim work and paint work is completed,
have landscape company coming to grade the front and side for now, and replace the stones. Carls fencing is coming in the next 4 weeks to install the new fence and gates as well as the railing for the front steps, that will complete the rt side of the yard for now, still want to put some bushes in but they will need to wait until next year,
then we move on the the driveway and garage floor, and left side of the yard, figure 2 more months it should all be done completely,
then the really fun stuff happens, shopping for furniture.. thank god its not much, so it will take close to 1 year but now i know everything is new and done the way we wanted it,

Re: got hit hard with hurricane long road to come

just an update,
on house, its in the 97% area, still need to put some tile in downs stairs bathroom, as well as some trim work and grout the shower tiles, then its finished, still need to lay down the stick on tile and move washer and dryer into place, fill some nail holes in trim and touch up the paint that makes the inside of the house done, have all furniture, and i did a brake job for the neighbor and he gave me his old 50 inch flat tv, don't care about age it works so i am happy, this winter i am going to set the garage up and fix the minor mistake that was made,

for now i still have the 91 hardtop z28 i was working on before the storm got some help from a couple friends and they started a fire under my *** on it, so i have been working on it, unfortunately i lost 60% of the interior since it was in garage but i did have the seats in the car going to start looking for what i need to finish it, but also on fence about selling it,

going to be going through all the stored boxes and find out what nos pontiac and camaro stuff i have left i think its time to start getting rid of what i don't need and good chance will never use, even have some nos slp goodies in the mix,

but on a different note family is well and youngest son is doing better but still afraid of the rain in the dark. for all that don't know i tried to leave [ only a couple inch of water they said.... 5 feet later] he was on my shoulder when i got pinned between a car and the oil tank that floated up in the storm was stuck for almost 2 hours before i was able to get free [ cracked ... broke 2 ribs in the fight with oil tank ], was just a bit to much for him to handle, he just needs more time that's what the doc's all say,
