Front plate law massachusetts-How to Avoid!

I recently saw a post about the front plate law in NJ- in Massachusetts we have the same plate law- But you dont have to have one, you just tell the people at the registry it did not have a factory plate mount, and they will give you a special permit for $10, and then ship you a new green plate. i'm waiting for my green plate! Until your plate comes they give you a paper to staple to the reg in case you get pulled over.

maybe in mass, but never heard of this in NJ. doesnt matter if they "didnt" have one form the factory, (since they all had something, nice looking or not). A friend of my father had to put a front plate on his Lamborghini, even though it didnt have one from the factory. you would proably have a heart attach if i told you how it was mounted...

NJ is much lamer. Around here, even if your car didn't come with cats you need them to pass state inspection at the local station. A friend's 67? mustang failed because it didn't have cats...

As far as i'm aware. That is because Mass used to only require one license plate. they swapped to 2 recently within the last few years (correct me if wrong). So they're more lenient on this. If your car didn't have a front spot for plate they give u one of the old plates instead of the new ones.

Yup, but you have to specifically request it and get the permit or you are required to have 2

I wonder if I can go and request this now? I got pulled over a few weeks ago for having the front plate displayed on my dash in the windshield.

no, if the car didnt have them, it doesnt need them. I dont think they even have emissions specs for cars that old anyway. If he was told he needed them, the techs were wrong.

for that matter, you dont "need" them now if somehow you can pass the sniffer without them, since NJ doesnt do visual anymore.

Cats weren't installed on vehicles until 1973. Anything made before that would not be required to have them in ANY state, including California. Whoever told him that was just trying to make a few extra bucks.

And even I have seen sheetrock screws used to hold front plates on here in PA. And front plates aren't even required here(thank God!!!) As for the Lamborghini using the sheetrock screws, the car one drives does not influence the redness of one's neck.

No i didnt SHEET rock my plate on, i drive in MA with no front plate and when i get pulled over the cop asks me why i dont have one and i respond "do you know how much these 91-92 GTA T/A front bumpers are? Well there too expensive to drill holes in" I also refuse straight to cop that im not going to put one on whether he tickets me or not and guess what? no tickets.... Honesty goes a long way.

1995 MA first started the two plates. Green plates are grandfathered in. I know the hard way. Had my TA off the road for six months and during those six monthes it happened.

Cars off the road, can't get the stupid thing to run, its been off of the road for almost a year, when I'm done clearing the floors and get the stupid thing started, ill put it back on the road and get all of the info you need. I think its called a special numbers permit. I'll look for the paper work when I get a chance. Srry I wasn't thinking of you when it broke down.

Re: Front plate law massachusetts-How to Avoid!

My wife had her green plate taken by the RMV when we took her van off the road and put her Camaro on the road this spring. They told her they were swapping all of the green plates for the new ones. It didn't matter if the plates are still usable.
