PA Law?
Got a couple quick questions regarding PA law... i've been looking for the past few hours and to no avail.
1.) What is PA restrictions regarding window tinting for my two door?
2.) Is ground lighting legal in PA for driving and/or parked?

Re: PA Law?
I'm not sure how dark is illegal here in PA but I do know you MUST be able to see the driver thru the tint on the side doors...
Ground lighting is okay parked as far as I know but Illegal driving.

It all depends on how bad the cop that pulled you over wants to bust your stones..

You can have windows behind the driver tinted. Not beside or in front of. I have the side windows on my pickup tinted and haven't been stopped. Had side windows on my Peterbilt tinted and got a ticket.

State police carry a device he will place on your tinted window. It reads how much of a percentage of light can pass through. You need at least 70% of the light to pass through, or it has to come off. He will give you a warning, and it must be signed by any law enforcement officer, after you remove the tint. I think you must do all of this in like 5 days, or you will be cited. Rear door windows can be darker, but like bowtie stated, the drivers doors are the issue.

Re: PA Law?
unless of course it comes from the factory with darker tint all around. Then it's magically ok. Usually this is the case when the car is expensive. Once again, if you're rich, the law doesn't apply, just like front license plates in NJ ...but not if you got a Viper that doesn't have the provision.
I got nothing against making it illegal to have really dark tint all around and stupid lights all over the car when you're driving. But if it's rooted in safety concerns, there should be _NO_ exceptions.

You have to take into account that if you were a policeman and you approached a car with 80% all around you'd be pissed off as well. Imagine all the cops that walked up to a car that was tinted only to have bullets fly throught their chest......
Cops are not here to give their lives because criminals want to break the law.....
They are here to make the criminals give their lives for wanting to break the law......

Re: PA Law?
while true, cops aren't here to risk their lives for window tint, the idea that the law for window tinting is there to protect cops falls flat on it's face when cars that are coming out of the factory with dark tint get the OK from the federal government and thus, the state. If it's to protect cops, then there should be no exceptions.
I do believe the window tinting law is there to protect cops, it's just directed at those too poor to buy the expensive cars that are somehow allowed to have such tint. It seems to be the case that if you can buy an expensive car, you dont need to worry about non-sexy laws like limits on tinting and front license plates and emissions systems and headlight height etc etc.
And the penalty for tint.. Lets examine that, we fine you for having something dangerous to the lives of cops. You can still keep it, we'll just fine you again next time, only more. To me that explains clear as day that this is a money making law and only a money making law as far as the state is concerned. Like speeding and numerous other traffic type "laws", it's only purpose is to give cops another avenue for giving you a ticket so the state gets more money. If they really cared about cops lives, they would warn you, then they would scrape the **** off your windows at the court house after you lost your case right in the parking lot.
If they really cared about traffic accidents then they wouldn't focus entirely on speeding (out of state licenses usually, or the profile of choice) and look at how retarded people drive going at the speed limit or slower. The very existance of red light cameras should make that point painfully clear. What good is it to have a picture of a car hitting another in an intersection that some guy blew through? Yet that is what red light cameras are supposed to be preventing, how? It's not like they're made very visible or noted with signs. They're there to catch people breaking the law, not there to prevent or deter. They're thus not a deterrent and thus their purpose is only to make money. I'm sure it'll be a great consolation to those people who are hit in intersections because of people blowing a red light that, had this not have happened, that guy would have gotten a ticket and maybe thought twice about blowing another red light. The minute you move from prevention to catching, your purpose has become completely different.
And that concludes my rant about traffic laws.
You can't really ignore the hypocritical nature of these types of laws completely, no matter how great their intention may have been. So in summary, everyone says tint all around is illegal, you will get hassled eventually for it. Lights under the car are tacky and while you can have them on while parked off the street, the cop should give you a ticket for lameness anyway. Everyone knows colored flames shooting out of the tailpipe is the only way to be cool.
