Re: Question For Wisconsin

Seeing as how you have one now, I'll assume Wisconsin requires one. That being said, it would not be legal for you to remove it. On the other hand, some people choose to remove theirs and haven't had any problem with the local authorities, but some police officers will pull you over for it or say something about it if you are pulled over for some other reason. So, legal? - no, can you get away with it? Possibly.

My car is licensed in IL so I am supposed to run a front plate, but since I'm in Indiana 80% of the year, I've never actually put it on because IN does not have front plates. I realize that doesn't make it legal, but it does make it easier to get away with.

Hopefully this helps

Re: Question For Wisconsin

That makes sense, but i was told if the model of car doesn't come with a front license plate mount then its legal to only have one. I have a Z28 grill in my car and it has a front license plate mount, but if the 92 RS didn't come with a mount from the factory then i should be fine without one right?

Re: Question For Wisconsin

I can testify that is not the case in Illinois. My mother drives a M-B SLK that originally did not come with a place to mount the front license plate bracket. A cop pulled her over and threatened to give a ticket if she did not put one on it. She had to buy an aftermarket bracket that mounts it out in front of the front bumper. The dealer would also have installed it, however they were going to cut through the front bumper to mount it. The same scenario happened to my father as well. He drives an Austin-Healey kit car on which the front bumper does not have a specific place to mount a license plate. He was pulled over one time driving his C4 (also with no front license plate) and was told to put a license plate on the vette and his other car!

I also have a Z28 grill in my car. I've seen grill inserts that were for mounting a license plate that I believe were factory. I think it depends on which state the car was sold in.

Re: Question For Wisconsin

I see cars all over the place here with no front license plate mount. My dad's truck doesn't have one and there is no plpace for it. He bought it in wisconsin too. Also from what I've heard, it depends on the cop, too. Wait, I just looked at your profile, your from Illinois and Indiana, and I'm from Wisconsin....hmmmm, just a thought.

Can someone from Wisconsin verify this, Thanks

Re: Question For Wisconsin

Bottom line - Front plates are required. You may be ticketed for not having one. Will you get away with not running one? - roll the dice.

It says on the pack that your plates come in, if the state Of Wisconsin gives you two plates, then your car should have two plates.

I have passed cops before with no problem but who knows. I think they will usually use it as an excuse to pull you over for something else.

My father got a ticket a few years ago for no front plate. I don't know the exact amount of the fine, but it was over $100.

I got pulled over a few years back and was given a warning. I'm not sure if it is a primary offense or not but generally they give you a warning and if its not taken care of by such a date they mail you a ticket

Re: Question For Wisconsin

You must display a fron plate in wisconsin even if the car doesnt originally come with a front bracket. I have been pulled over for this, typically you will only get pulled over by a WI state Trooper. But consider that it gives a law enforcement agent a reason to pull you over where if you have the front plate they will have to find something else to pull you over for......this is useful info if you drive around near bar closing time.

Re: Question For Wisconsin

seeing as im only 18 i don't have a problem with bar closing times. and when i drive im careful and obey all laws, so even if they pulled me over for no plate they have nothing else to ticket me for. I don't think it will be a problem, my dad has been driving his truck for 7 years without a front plate and has had no problems. So i should be fine

Re: Question For Wisconsin

I usually don't drive my car at all at night. Way to many deer around to even bother with that. If they would pull me over for anything they would use the exhaust as an excuse way before the front plate.

Re: Question For Wisconsin

Wisconsin for sure does require two plates.I put new front sheet metal on my Z,and really didn't want to drill up my virginal bumper cover for front plates.Well, two years go by with seasonal driving. One afternoon I passed a squad car in the oncoming lane.He spun around in the middle of the street and stopped me...for guess what??Moral to the story,on the right day with the right officer......you'll get 'er..........BILL

Re: Question For Wisconsin

For the most part I never had a front plate on that car Adrian, and I can say for certain, driving up to Door County, they will not let you go by without it. They will probably recognize the car without the front plate. I just carried the plate under the front seat, and when pulled over ask if I can put it on,I would toss it on for the day and that night take it back off, no tickets ever.

So how is the car doing? Running strong yet? Any problems? I hope not.

I might still have another exhaust for that car in my storage unit. I can check and see. if I do, its yours if you want it.

Re: Question For Wisconsin

sweet, sounds good. oh and i had a low beam light go out, so i replaced them with sylvana silver stars, love em. but ya, that would be awesome if you have the exhaust, you wouldn't happen to have a grey headliner for it too would you?

Oh and funny story with the front plate. I was at work (bp gas station), and a cop pulls up next to the camaro, i was watching him while he walked all around it looking at it. He came inside and asked "who's camaro," i said it was mine, and he goes, "nice lookin ride." he never said anything about the front plate, and he had to have noticed it, so for now im good.

I might be able to go check out my storage unit tomorrow, i will check on the exhaust for you. I know I don't have a headliner for you though, I would have put that in myself if i had it.

I am glad to hear you are enjoying the car, I still miss it. That was by far my favorite third gen of many many I have owned.

Last fall there was another RS just like yours for sale not to far from me, except it was ratty. My daughter (remember it was her car) started crying when she saw it, she so badly wanted me to go buy it for her.

Re: Question For Wisconsin

ya i might get a parts car pretty soon, $250. Its amazing the car has some rust on the hood, and all it needs is a tranny to get it running, and he only wants $250 for it, but hey im not complaining.
Ya if you have the exhaust, how much do you want for it? And did you find your 92 Z vert yet?

Apparently you didn't see our useless governor's speech tonight. To cut costs, we will just have to make due with the DMV issuing only one plate. I woder when that will take effect.

Re: Question For Wisconsin

Hey DePere, I'm in Bellevue. Haven't had a front plate on either one of my collector cars for15 years but I did get stopped 20 some years ago with my first Camaro ('70 RS Z/28 ) by a state trooper who said the main reason he stopped me was because I had no front plate. I told him that when the body work was done the mounting holes were filled and I no longer had the bracket to mount the plate. He gave me a warning. A couple months later a county cop stopped me and I gave him the same story. No luck, $65 ticket!!!
