Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
I live in West Bend and work at Stay Tuned Customs in Waukesha. I would definately be interested in a get together. If anyone ever needs anything audio related or performance wise give me a call or stop by the shop and hang out for a bit. Phone numbers are in my sig.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
Like I have said before... come autocross. I see atleast one thirdgen drive by at every event but the person never actually comes in to check it out. IT IS SAFE TO COME IN... WE WONT BITE. It's free to come and walk around the grid and sit and watch. DON'T LET THE PERSON BY THE GATE SCARE YOU AWAY. On the 21st, what looked like a white Z28 drove by... who was it?
If we get together at GLD, let's do it on a Friday so I can get in for the cheaper price because of High School night. I graduated this year so this is my last summer to get in cheap on Friday.
And a shameless sale... anyone want to buy a MINT Firebird dash pad or refurbished Firebird map pouches? I have a few different styles and colors of the pouches. PM me.
Mike

I'm around Milwaukee; my family has three thirdgens. I've autocrossed my 82 a few times, and I've only been to GLD once with the 82.

I keep watchin this post for a definate time/place everyone interested can meet up. I know racing geek has been trying, and I applaud him for it...but I'm just not into the autocross thing myself.
We have all winter now to come up with some kind of central location, and I'll keep checking in. My car won't be back on the street until early spring sometime. It's finally in the body shop getting painted for the first time since I've owned it (9 years)....

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
My car is getting parked at the end of the week so I can spend my Thanksgiving break working on it. Hopefully the pile of parts in the basement will start shrinking. lol
As I have said before, I will pretty much always be at the Milwaukee region autocross events for those of you that want to stop by. I'll post more about that next year when it starts again.
I'm down for some drag racing too. I'll get smoked by a lot of you here but at least I can get awesome reaction times. The only time (and the first time) I ever went, my reaction times were averaging out to 0.09 seconds. As of now, it doesn't look like my planned motor build/swap will be completed in time for next season but who knows what will happen in the coming months.
I also plan on going to Third Gen Fest and Car Craft Summer Nationals again next year. Maybe we can make the drive together? That would be cool to have a line of 10+ cars rolling through the gates at the same time.

I may show up to Third Gen Fest for the very first time next year. Maybe we'll meet up then.
I should have fresh paint by then too. I also plan to get new wheels and DR's by then hopefully. I'm hoping the tires will help with my lack-of-traction since I'm spinning through the first 2 gears and midway through third before it settles down. Gotta figure out how to get it to the ground.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
What engine build are you planning? I knew it would just be a matter of time until you ditched the 305...and if you're not ditching it, I have a rebuilt one sitting on a stand in my garage with less than 5K on it - ran great when I pulled it. It needs a home. Also have a few other parts I'm putting up for sale soon- intakes, carb, distributors...PM me if you're interested.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
Sorry Confuzed1.
My 305 is starting to smoke really bad and it's making some loud tick/knock sound so I need it to be replaced really soon. I'm not sure if I would just tear down my 305 and stroke it to get a little more displacement for dirt cheap or if I should just junk the whole thing. A friend said he has a 350 motor from carb to oil pan that he would give me. It's from a 73 Camaro so I'm not sure if I really want to use it. I plan on keeping the TPI (or a modified version of it) but I also would like to keep a roller motor. I've also been considering making the switch to speed density so I can get rid of the MAF and follow through with my plan for a custom intake and cooling setup. If I use a 350, I'm not sure if I would build it up with better heads, cam, and intake, or if I should stroke it to 383 and just through some stock heads and intake on after doing a quick home port job. I really don't know what I want to do. Money is really tight since I'm in school (an expensive one at that) and I only have a part time job so I'm trying to do things as cheap as possible without compromising too much quality. lol
Based on the prices I've been quoted for a 383 or strong 350 motor, I'm also wondering if it would almost be cheaper to try and do an LT/LS swap.
I'm really up in the air about what I'm going to do. All I know is that I want it done by at least mid-Spring. If anyone wants to help fund this, you can buy some parts from me. Everything in the "For Sale" section of my photobucket is, you guessed it, for sale.

Does the link work?

Well, if you're ever interested in putting a great running 305 HO in it, let me know. It's rebuilt .030 over, hyper pistons, 416 heads were rebuilt, crank ground .010 with new bearings...everything. Like I said, ran great - would keep up or beat most 350's. Have other stuff hardly used too. Sorry - can't fund you, I'm trying to fund my paint job.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
Well, it's been over a month with no one posting in this thread so to revive some hope about something possibly happening, I'm bumping it back up to the top.
My motor plans have fallen through since I decided to build a motorcycle. I'll just "limp" the 305 through another race season. I'm swamped with school work so I haven't had much time to do work on my car. I've also been considering selling off all my aftermarke suspension goodies and replacing it with stock stuff and then buying a shifter kart to race instead of my IROC. One of the main reasons I'm considering this is because the yearly $$ spent racing would be way less. For example, a set of tires is $150-200 (kart) as apposed to $800-1000 (car). I would only go through 1 or two sets a year autocrossing the kart meanwhile I would go through a set of tires a year when autocrossing the car.
Ohhhhh, the possibilities...

Well I really was looking forward to a get together, but I left Wisconsin and now live in Las Vegas Nv. Its funny I have lived here 6 months and have seen a total of 1 IROC, 0 GTAS on the street the whole time Ive been here. Here I thought I would see a a lot more than Wisconsin because of the climate. My days of hitting up HWY 100 and finding other GTA/Iroc owners to chat with are over.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
You'll find some thirdgens eventually. At least you are near where thy run teh Silver State Challenge. During that event you can legally drive as fast as teh car will go along public highways. It's obviously more involved then putting your foot through the floor, but you should check into it.
Will anyone be doing any of the free racing during the opening week at GLD?

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
a little of both I guess, this is my first time working on a vehicle.
new engine is in, just having problems knowing what to modify from my old setup to make this new one work; vac lines, sensors that are needed, what kind of distrib, setting timing, etc.
I have literally a hundred hours or more reading online but thats only taking me so far.
If your interested, how much would it take to make it worth your while? Of course beer and food are provided. My wife is one of the best cooks you would ever meet.I drink budlight but would get whatever you wanted.
cars in the garage, if I run the propane heater it gets around 50 degrees in there. keeps the chill off as long as you stay busy.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
I think you should start a thread in the appropriate section (such as TPI tech) and enlist the help of everyone on this board. Start the thread with a detailed description of what has been done and what you would like to accomplish. For example, are you retaining the original size engine, TPI etc. Or, are you modifying? If so, what will be modified? It may take a while to type up the post but the more you include the more everyone can help. There are a lot of pictures and images posted here that may get you through it without direct help from others. I've sent a PM as well. BTW, is Bud Light beer?

cars in the garage, if I run the propane heater it gets around 50 degrees in there. keeps the chill off as long as you stay busy.

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
I'm fine with something in the middle of Wisconsin. I've made much farther drives in my car.
Can someone list off all the drag strips in WI since we will most likely meet up at a drag strip. If anyone wants to setup a time to do some turning I'll make time to join you. I'm booked for pretty much every weekend in May but a week day afternoon will also work for me. I'm working third shift so I can't do anything late.
Keep us all posted,
Mike

Re: Calling all WISCONSINITES
I would imagine that Elkhart Lake (Road America) would be expensive. A road course sounds better to me than a drag strip. I would do either though if the weekend is open for me. Just getting together with a bunch of 3rd gen guys (and gals) sounds great!
