Another thirdgen project 84 Trans Am
hey all, back again, haven't had a 3rdgen in awhile. picked up an 84 TA recently, she needs some love. interior isn't bad, but the paint is rough, been too close to a fire at some point, and neglected by well.... negligent previous owners.
regardless. its new to me. haven't gone through the RPOs yet. they said it was an auto that got converted to a 5spd. i don't believe them though. feels like its got 3.73s and that was the std gear for manuals in 84. also while taking the interior apart to steam clean and remove ALOT of unnecessary wiring (3 separate 80s alarm systems) i found someone's high school yearbook photo (from the 80s) an atm receipt from 1984 and a promo card from McDonalds (for the 1984 summer Olympics) all under the shifter trim, so safe to say that manual has been in there since 84. it shifts great, and runs really good despite leaking fuel (fuel lines on the pump aren't long enough.) and having the Qjet swapped out for an edlebrock, but the factory hei intact (i remember this causing timing issues in my old z28) i drove this thing all the way back to Bellingham from Yakima on a little over 1 tank, 60mph is 2krpm in 5th, wheels are stock and tires are stock size (any of the gear wizards wanna math that for me?) aside from that I've been cleaning and gathering parts. found the only place left online you can get a brand new isolation relay for the headlights, and now those work great, pulled the gauge cluster out to swap the mostly burnt out bulbs for some green LEDs. gonna repaint the orange bezel too, not a fan of the orange. got some period correct goodies for it too. set of AR Gambler 500s with some pretty nice tires on em that i haven't put on yet (still cleaning them up) and a moroso dress up kit (those moroso valve covers sure have gotten expensive)

Re: Another thirdgen project 84 Trans Am
also if anyone knows the cheapest place to get a set of the correct turn signals (not the ****in trailer lights the previous guy badly wired in) and some preferably new front grills that'd be great

Looks like a nice project, the black and gold is a killer combo on the TA along with the 5 speed and those gears should make that a fun ride as well. I haven't seen those wheels since high school and then it was on a 80s Formula and they looked the part.
