Anyway, I found a whole 305 pulled from an '83 van that turns over by hand for $300 and drove 60 miles this evening and picked it up. My hopes are for a decent set of heads and good rods since I have neither.

I have a L69 305 from a 84 15th id tear down for you if you'd need. Was gonna post this earlier but I tought you had a set already. It's a good L69. Just the cars is a full resto. Fell in love with it too easily

Thanks, that's a generous offer but I think I'm good now. Just need to tear it down and see.

Re: Mecham MSE revival / refurbishment

I pulled the steering shaft and gearbox and scraped/brushed/cleaned grease and grime for about 5 hours today. Not done yet but engine compartment is at least presentable.

Re: Mecham MSE revival / refurbishment

I worked most of today on the MSE. The Recaro seat sliders were rusted stuck. Do you guys know how hard it is to remove the rear mounting nuts when the seats are stuck FULLY slid back

? Those Recaros sit WAY close to the floor! I finally got them out, removed the tracks and got them freed up and sliding again.

Also pulled down the saggy and rotten headliner material and vacuum'd up all the nasty crud from the whole car. I pulled the lower section of the heater box out and I think all my firewall insulation must have been in there!!

I also just HAD to touch up the cracking and peeling bodywork. This car had a partial quarter replacement back in the late 80's along with the passenger door. Before paint I'll strip everything down to bare metal and fix it properly BUT, for now I just need it presentable. My version of a quick and dirty touch up!!!

....and YES,....it IS about 1/4" thick or better!! Like I said, I'll fix it right when I strip the car for paint.

Re: Mecham MSE revival / refurbishment

During the refresh of my 1992 Firehawk, the garage was full of boxes with different subsystems. Each one labels and in ziplock bags along with the hardware. Helped me tackle one projects at a time.

I also use the "bag-n-tag" method. Yep, hood release works great.

I've got a buddy here locally that does classic car restorations. He's a real good body man. We've been friends since high school. He's been working on his 72 Chevelle SS restomod and we talked about my quarter damage. I'm going to rebuild his 406 sbc and he's going to repair my quarter CORRECTLY when I get ready to completely strip it for paint. I also built the 700r4 for the Chevelle.

Currently loaded on the trailer and ready to head to Branson Mo for the Trans Am takeover! The show is Saturday at the Auto Museum. If you're in the area stop and say hi!
