New addition - 1989 GTA
Haven't been super active on here lately, but today's scoop should change that. It's an '89 GTA, 350, t-top rig with 110,xxxkm, or about 68,xxx miles. Genuinely rust free, with a pretty impressive pearlescent white paint job replacing the original basic white. Motor's very healthy but both catalytics are full of beans, so it's extremely low on power. 2 replacements are on their way already. The car's spent the last decade or so serving as 5 star living for the local mouse community, but I think I deleted the last of the 30 apartments. I wish I was kidding when I said there were 2 nests built between the headliner board and the fabric, never mind the other spots. Car smelled like death so within an hour of getting it home, the interior was gutted and the steam cleaner was running a marathon. Seats are in excellent condition though, as is the rest of the interior minus the steering wheel and now obliterated headliner. Despite its lack of go-fast enthusiasm, I drove the car home and it actually made it just fine. I felt a bit of a left side pull when braking, but otherwise, nothing to note. All electronics work, it shifted perfectly, no smoking, no negative notes at all really. Lots of work was done to certify the car within the last few hundred km, however that was also around 2010, so there's a bit of general maintenance to be repeated.
Moving in to day 2 and beyond, the plan is pretty much to go over all the general maintenance stuff, and make it a reliable summer daily. I was lucky enough to score a spoiler, and now I'm just on the hunt for a clean replacement steering wheel and reasonably priced ttops to replace my brutally aged and cracked Lex-o's. Gonna get the seats back in the car tomorrow, and hopefully come up with some more updates for those who care to follow along!

So an ‘89 / 5.7 / ttop / N10 aka peak thirdgen? ….GTA in white??
They all look fantastic but in my humble opinion there was a reason you could only get a TTA in white - nothing else looked quite as excellent on those gold crosslace shoes.
Awesome!!! Can’t wait to see her all cleaned up!!

What was the story with a 350 GTA and T-tops? Does that make this a Canadian-spec car?

Okay. I didn't think the t-tops could be had on a US-spec car with the 350.
On various web sites, there's so much conflicting information on options. And horsepower. Every site I see has slightly different numbers in power output for the various V-8s. I know the power changed a bit year to year, but there are a lot of different numbers published for the exact horsepower in any given year.

These are mine. I haven't decided if I"m going to sell one or both yet.
Feel free to send me a PM if you want. They're in Detroit, so if you knew someone in Windsor who wanted to meet me and pick one up you could probably save a lot in shipping.

Welcome back! That one looks like a keeper once you sort it out. Very desirable options/year combo.
With the steering wheel it might be worth it to send it out to get refurbished? Mine was around $400 to get done by Donald Le at Dallas custom steering wheels and he did a nice job that has held up well so far.

Re: New addition - 1989 GTA
Interior actually came out pretty nicely. My phone makes the seats looks pretty grungy but in person, it's more than presentable. Still a bit heavy on the nostrils, but I think it's more residual stank that should get resolved with some air-time and dryer sheets. Maybe another deep clean too. The car was literally a sealed tomb of corpses and **** for over a decade, so I'm not surprised that a few scent ghosts remain. Stevie Wonder's writing a safety for me this week, so we should be on the road shortly. Can't wait to see what kind of issues reveal themselves when I'm not only 3 km from the shop.

Couple random shots. All the lights work, and check out how clean those tails are. Sheeeeesh. After a good detail, I bet the ol' tree-fiddy will clean up pretty nicely too.

The wrapped on is brand new. I purchased it quite a few years ago when someone with a TTA noticed GM had only two left in the system.
I ended up never using it and since sold the TTA.
I have a Camaro now so, it's just been in my basement ever since.

Nice find! I've always liked the white GTAs. Previous poster was right about the look of the TTAs / white TAs with gold shoes.

I do have a guy local who says they can do them but I haven't gotten a quote yet.
If that pans out I'll make a post on the history and restoration board and update this thread.

Do you have the contact info for Dallas custom steering wheels? Google isn't being very helpful.

I took a look and found the email, original quote was $349 w/ $25 shipping but I needed the rubber like material fixed too so it cost a little more. Turn around time was fast too, like about a week IIRC. I remember when I was looking to get this done a lot of guys wouldn’t touch the GTA wheel with radio controls, even chuck pelton or Felton wouldn’t touch it.

Re: New addition - 1989 GTA
Haven't posted much in the way of updates as I went on a girthy road trip right before moving across the country, but here's a lil somethin. Despite replacing things that proved to be faulty, I still couldn't resolve the misfire issue. Since I was moving before having my cars shipped to me, I decided to bring it to my mechanic to let him figure out what had gone wrong and sure enough, it had dropped an exhaust valve. Fantastic. Anyways, the car's still there having that resolved and HOPEFULLY, she'll finally run nicely and be more than just a boat anchor in my driveway. I'm still a few weeks away from the car getting shipped to my new place so don't expect many updates until then!
