Hell yeah!! a good buddy got on of these new and I went for more than a couple rides in it. It was his car that sold me on hi-tech new cars have arrived It beat my 69 Z28 with mild 427 in it - his car had a/c good tunes and handled great - all around better than my 69 did! I'm surprised that this is first build I've seen on one

I've always wanted to take one of these for a spin. I've driven birds, I've driven GNs, but never a GN powered bird.

What are your plans with this one? Just engine/trans rebuild, and freshen up the rest of the car?
Oh, these are a "must-drive". Sort of like driving a regular V-6 thirdgen, until you give it some gas. Stomp on it, and it turns into a wild ride! Just so erie to accelerate that quickly, but not hearing the roar of a V8. Just a lot of turbo whine. Loads of fun!
Can't wait to see what you do.

The previous owner bought the car around '03, had the engine rebuilt, car had some valve train issues, had it rebuilt again under warranty, car still had valve train issues, previous owner said **** it and the car sat in his garage for 10 years before he sold it to me.
It ran pretty damn good when I first got it, but it began to show signs of some kind of problem, and it's only gotten worse and worse and the car is no fun to drive at this point. Rather than trying to chase these gremlins, it'll be cheaper and more productive to just pull the engine, have it gone through, and built how I want it (450-500 horsepower).

Everyone see what I did there, btw? Like a whole deja vu type deal?
This picture is of the Formula just before the LS swap.

Surprised you didn't go with the SFI-6 from Dynamic EFI or the SD2 Chip from Turbo Tweak...

Are you getting the T/A performance girdle?
I live near T/A performance. Took a tour of their shop once. Never seen so many TTA's or GN's in one place before. They make everything for these cars (Including new blocks, heads, and exhaust manifolds.)

Wait...WHAT?!! Why would they... Why the **** wouldn't they just... Ohhh...okay...
That's how my day went. And that's probably how your day would've went too if you've ever pulled a 3.8 out of a TTA.
We're not quite there yet. I've got the radiator, the fans, the intake tract, and a few other peripherals off the car. Very little of it was easy. Don't think for a minute that the absence of two cylinders affords you ANY room to work with on one of these. A lot of the engineering is pretty funky. And I'd like to meet whoever put that motor together last...in a dark alley...just to talk, ya know. Detestable excuse for a human being managed to put ALL the hose clamps on in the most inaccessible way (screw head facing the frame or some other obstacle. I'm actually mystified as to how they were able to secure them on.
Other than that, it's the usual fun stuff - label tape not sticking to vacuum lines, frequent trips to the tool box for "one more tool", and anti-freeze dripping into my eyes.

Looks like fun. Your planned upgrades are similar to what is already on mine. Definitely a unique driving experience.

That’s it for tonight...before my friggin head explodes. This thing’s got layers.
Tomorrow (with a clear head) I’ll see about how to deal with all these vacuum lines.

Cleaned engine bay.
Still waiting on some parts.
Still waiting for machine shop to tear down the engine.
Planning to start replacing all wire loom and cleaning parts.
Have converter, chip, injectors, pump, and Hotwire kit.
New snail 🐌 arrived today.
Still waiting on cam kit and Alky kit. And MAF sensor.
Still hammering out how best to address the issue of the 2004R.

Re: Cocaine Comeback (TTA 1119)
Currently I’m out of town for work.
All the parts have arrived except for the camshaft kit and the AlkyControl kit.
The Trans is going to be shipped to Bowtie Overdrives in CA.
The engine is at the machine shop, I just got off the phone with him. He says there’s like 1/16” of clearance between the pistons & the cylinder walls - so we’re gonna be boring out and getting new pistons at the very least on top of everything else.
I was in the middle of re-dressing the wiring when I was called away.

Re: Cocaine Comeback (TTA 1119)
Hey, brotha! Sorry about going dark on COTM this month.
As for the TTA, the hold up has been the local machine shop backburner-ing me, and now, waiting on pistons.
On my end, all the wiring has been re-dressed, and I’m about halfway through cleaning & painting pieces, parts and accessories - aesthetic tie-in and thermal protection being the theme.
Also, the transmission was sent to Bowtie Overdrives in California and built to their Stage 3 specs. So, pretty much just waiting on the engine.

Re: Cocaine Comeback (TTA 1119)
Have you done the racetronix kits before? The reason I ask, is, I have the kit (pump and hot wire) and this is the last thing I need to do before I get the exhaust welded back up so i can program the HP and try to get this engine swap up and running on mine. I was going to just have the pump and a new sender put in by a local shop with a lift, but that is turning into to a fruitless en devour (I'm in the middle of no-where so i guess it's up to me). I really didn't want to be on my back on the concrete anymore, and doing this on jack stands feels so sketchy to me. But, it is what it is. I get how to drop the rear and get the tank out and all to do the pump swap, but if you happen to have experience with this brand of pump, is there anything else I will need to hook up that pump with or have to modify, that is not included with that kit. From what I can research, the hot wire is just a simple hook to the alt-run to the back under the car and plug it in to the stock harness plugs from the underside of the rear seats and to the harness to the tank (pump). I just didn't know if there was any modification needed to the new pump wiring inside the tank to make work, or if that part was totally plug and play too? I also bought a new sprectra sending unit so I'm hoping that will be the same and will not have to modified. Also, I haven't look yet, but I'm assuming the rubber lines from sending until to fuel hard lines will be shot, or should be replaced. Any ideas of what kind or size to replace those with? Not trying to hijack your build, but this would be an awesome part of your build to include in here since previous ones are so vague. Looking forward to seeing this TTA get back together, for these are my most favorite thirdgen's!
