Re: A Firebird GTA the way they should have bult it....
as mentioned earlier, the seatback was modified to allow fer a bit more storage
the bare back was sewn for a pocket
this is how the replacement would have been made
a piece of stretch webbing was harvested from factory seats

if it calms yer squirm to see those belts, the ones in the car are quite a bit wider, so if ever needed they would distribute the impact weight - a bit....

LOL, no no no. As with all builds, I was progressing nicely on finishing a stereo install, and ended up liking another color better for the carpet. So ended up ripping the whole interior out again and put in something really nice.....

Carpet on the right is that factory color, I found a color called 'opal' that really gets set off by the extra metal i put in the in the paint. I had to fit it to the roll cage again, so one step forward, five steps back....

Re: A Firebird GTA the way they should have bult it....
just fer interest sake, carpet weights are significant. three levels available are no padding(left), jute only(center) and the premium sound deadening tar, jute and all (right). logic dictates that there will be a difference in weight and there is. Passenger compartment only, left 6 pounds, center 12 pounds, and the fat one on the right weighs 32 pounds.
the one one the left and the one on the right are NOS and the one in the center is from yearone

Re: A Firebird GTA the way they should have bult it....
i didn't like that the factory replacement outlets all have one "gray" color for the foot pads that is used on all the different shades of gray carpeting
so i sewed in my own using the same leather that is used on the rest of the interior

a couple of people responded, the reason the pedal is worn on both ends is bc road racers drive with three feet......

as always, good work
but WHY oh WHY is that shifter handle clocked so wacky? I'll never understand this. At over a decade of car shows, races, events.. I've seen these B&M shifter handles facing upside down, sideways, and oddly crooked. In such a well done build like this, please tell me that you won't be leaving it like that.

the shifter handle shown is not the one that is normally used, although the regular one is about the same shape. i cannot speak for why other people do what they do, however, i do know that some people position these handles (especially the t handles) at odd positions just to be odd. i can assure you that the final position of the handle in this car will be determined by what werks best for the driver in terms of being able to operate the transmission with this shifter. historically this t shifter has werked best for me in a position pretty close to the one shown. the shifter and the transmission are manually operated, so the driver has to be in control. this car also has an altered seating position which in turn alters access to the shifter. my experience as a road racer also influences this, the right hand needs to be at the steering wheel at most times except when yer shifting, so the 'back and forth' movement between the wheel and the shifter also plays into the position of the handle. a driver's dimensions also influence the handles' position.

Re: A Firebird GTA the way they should have bult it....
I partially understand, I'm just always in awe of how weirdly some people mount the T-handle. At least you had an explanation and racer related reason. I've come to the conclusion that most T-handle owners simply just screw the T-handle down to wherever it stops on the threads and call it "done", instead of positioning it in a horizontal orientation and then threading up the jam-nut from the underside. At least that is not you, or me.

Re: A Firebird GTA the way they should have bult it....
with the passenger area carpet replaced, the cargo area had to be redone as well. getting the material was difficult, as ACC would not sell anything more than 1 yard sections at a time, whenever they became available - as in cut offs. i did finally get it, and the cutting and sewing was exactly a copy of what was in there before except for an extra seam at the front of the cargo area.
an extra seam had to be sewn in the crown of the cargo carpet
once again, the lighting casts an off color hue
