Nice looking Formula. Looks like a nice rust-free southern car.

Re: 1990 pontiac formula restoration project

Looks like a good foundation to work with.

What did you use to cleanup/refinish the tank heat shields (if you don't mind me asking)?

Re: 1990 pontiac formula restoration project

I used a wire wheel to remove the factory undercoat overspray and a 3m scotch bright paint and rust stripper wheel (black plastic disc) for the rust.

The paint is dupli color cast aluminum engine enamel

Re: 1990 pontiac formula restoration project

The tank on my Iroc is rusted and will leak fuel if filled up over 1/2. While I have it out to replace it, I might as well cleanup under there & refinish the heat shields. Thanks agin for the pics and information!

Re: 1990 pontiac formula restoration project

Got the rear suspension back in and went with hedman shorty headers.I was going to do a 3inch cat back but just could not get past the sound of the cross flow muffler.I was going to do a single 3 inch with a single muffler but just didn't like the idea

Re: 1990 pontiac formula restoration project

Looking good. This is pretty much the type of resoration I plan on doing also. Start from the rear underbody and work my way forward.

What processs did you use to clean up your rear and suspension? What kind of paint did you use?

Re: 1990 pontiac formula restoration project

60 grit sanding disc for major rust scale on the top of rear end, sway bar and driveshaft carefull not to sand away any of the stamped numbers
220 harbor freight sand paper wet sand everything dry and wipe down with rubbing alcohol
cheap 97 cent gloss black paint from Walmart (blue can) this stuff sticks and stays on anything
harbor freight spray on rubberized undercoat Iron Armor

Sandblasting would be much better and faster,I started at the fuel tank because the fuel pump was dead LOL

Following.
If you go back to the red formula, would you pull all 4 of the big rad hose clamps off for me? (If they all look like the one one the water neck)
Could also use all 4 of the lower air dam parts plus all the bolts and clips, if they are in decent shape.

My fuel sending unit is shot so same reason for the back to front strategy here lol.

I was going to take up media blasting as a newly acquired skill to get the job done. I considered taking everything to get powder coated, but it gets expensive.

TTop350 I will be going back my next week day off where you located

Finished with the muffler section. I have it so it comes apart as the pipes come up over the axle in the event the fuel tank needs to come out.The exhaust is all painted black so it does not stick out.
