Re: 1983 Daytona 500 in New Zealand
hey Guys, cheers for the replies,
The Missus wanted a New ride and stumbled across this for a song. In Short We got lucky! being as American Iron is quite expensive Here.
was even better once we found how rare these babies are!!! This is believed to be One of Two Daytonas in New Zealand.
anyway Plans:
Restore to factory specs really not that this thing has been modified at all, mainly replacing worn parts and getting the leather recaros redone
The car has been what we call Landed. Landed is more or less the customs inspection at the dock however it has not been Complied which is a rigourous safety, emissions, etc etc check before being issued registration plates , right now the car would not pass compliance.
i'll hopefully update soon
cheers

Very cool T/A. Great to hear that you plan to restore it. As for parts, keep an eye on the classified ads here. All kinds of parts come up from time to time but I expect shipping to NZ might be pricy. I find a lot of original parts for my Formula 350 on eBay, but there again, you might have to watch for a while before the part you're looking for comes along.
Looking forward to seeing the Daytona back like new, keep us posted on the progress of the restore.

Re: 1983 Daytona 500 in New Zealand
Hi guys long time no post
We still have this sitting in the shed.
no pics today but some storytime. It runs and drives nicely now after i brought out new brake calipers and hoses from the USA along with a few other bits had the r/h side exhaust manifold repaired.
Poured some gas in the tank did an oil change and i connected up the beefiest battery known to man I got the CFI engine to run . (roughly)
after lots of research (mainly here on TGo thanks guys) i got the engine running and cursing like a boss. Turned out it was the MAP sensor not being correctly hooed up to the intake manifold after sorting that it purred
I will be getting stuck in to this to get it legally on the road in the coming months
stay tuned
Andy

Hey Andy,
Nice car thought I would bring to your attention if you are finding parts hard to come by chucksnz.co.nz will be able to help you I have tried to bring in parts from the states but the freight is shocking, two 1/2" bolts 6" long just suspension bolts were going to cost NZ $140 landed, so I went through chucks and got the same bolts for $40NZ I highly recommend them to you they can sell you a parts catalogue with virtually any part you want in it just ring through the part number an they do the rest hassle free.
Cheers Nat.
