Car: 92 RS 25th Anniversary
Engine: 305 TBI -> 305 TPI
Transmission: T5/T56
Axle/Gears: 3.08 - 3.73+ soon
What would you pay?
http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/cto/2863753798.html
I went a looked at it but my dad had to be somewhere so we didn't get the chance to drive it. The owner says it runs very well.
Pros:
65.5k orignal miles
350 v8 TPI
Ttops (although they leak)
Original wheels
Very straight body
Its a freakin GTA :P
Original Cassette player. Idk if this is a pro.
Cons:
HORRIBLE primer. It wasn't sanded or anything, primered over the original paint.
Wing/Spoiler is cracked all over.
Ttop leak
No GTA emblems
Interior front seats are ripped up for the miles..
Headlights don't pop up?
So the question is, What would you pay from the knowledge known? I need a basic price to go off of. What do you think its worth in its current state?
Thanks!

Re: What would you pay?
I personally think you would be paying too much if you paid the $2800. I would probably go in with a $1200/$1500 offer and my limit would be $2000.... It had good paint then I would say $1800 -$2200
the paint (lack there of would be the best negotiation since it will cost the most to get done)
some of the other things are a fairly easy fix and you can find some of the parts pretty cheap
Thats my 2 cents so hope it helps a little

Re: What would you pay?
Check the floor pans for rust, wheel wells, undercarrage for damage, lift or jack damage from improperly lifting the car etc. Also Absolutely a bargain price for what was the fastest production car of it's year? Maybe he confused TTA with GTA? AND it's also and IROC to boot! Ok joking aside, if the body is in great shape minus the paint, figure $2500 or better for a nice paint job, add for new weatherstrips all around, new headlight motors, 200 or so for redoing the headliner if the backing is still good, and not sure about prices for having the seats redone, oh and if the spoilers cracked price a reproduction piece and use all of these for bargoning to work the price down. If mechanically sound and the body is good start low, seem iffy but bring cash, if he seems like he's gonna blow you off tellem you will think about it and start to leave, chances are he will bite... if not I'd say its worth $2000 if all of the above is true.

Re: What would you pay?
Yeah I noticed that he said it was the fastest car.. And the iroc thing. I clarified with him that the Iroc and GTA were different cars.. It took awhile lol..
The body is in good shape, I didn't see any dents or scraps or anything.
You guys are telling me about the price I thought it was worth.. About 1500 - 1750.. At tops 2k if it runs AMAZING.

Re: What would you pay?
I'd save my money and look elsewhere. There's lots of GTA's out there for reasonable prices still. That looks worse than any "65k" car that I've ever seen. It's led a hard life most likely, and you'd probably spend years unscrewing the previous owners mistakes.
I paid 4200 for my '88 that was almost perfect. Save your money for a while and buy one like that. You'll avoid a bunch of headaches that way.

Re: What would you pay?
I know someone isnt going to be happy with what I am going to say here but. These cars have been becoming more and more overpriced. Why does everyone think everything is worth so much money. That would be a great deal if the pait was still there. I bought a better than that GTA a few years ago for 1200. Hard top 350 car first year GTA. Thats the price they should be going for if they are "drivers". Show condition oviously demands more money but its getting to the point where you cant get a decent third gen for under 2 grand. everything under that might as well be a parts car. for instance theres a guy is my area that has a 92 RS with like 160k on it, it has dents and dings and is no where near perfect. I email him and he wants 3500!! is he nuts or what. And are cars for sale that need an engine, transmission, paint whatever for $2500!!. I wouldn't pay more than 5 grand for any of these cars and it would have to be 100% mint and low mileage. It becomes very taxing for someone that may be looking to get into a third gen for the first time or someone that is a repeat offender like my self. Cash for Clunkers does not make these cars anymore valuable. they are still for the most part $2000 cars at best for a good "driver".
I guess thats my rant for today. I feel much better now

It's not the mid-90's anymore man. You're off base on your pricing expectations. They will start to go up in value, just as everything else does. The days where you will find a mint 3rd Gen for 2k-2.5k are rapidly fading into history. The same thing happened to the late second gens in the late 90's and early 2000's, our cars are about 10 years behind that. There was a day when Hemi Cuda's, Big Block Vette's, Chevelles, and yes, even 1st gens could be had for a paltry some. Those days too are long gone. Then again, I remember just a few years ago when 4th gen prices were still quite high. They're now rapidly falling, much like the 3rd gens did 15 years ago or so.
The nice 3rd gens that are left are fighting attrition numbers from all sides. Any car not stored in a climate controlled garage faces the elements on a daily basis. Even those wrapped up and never touched are still deteriorating from one thing or another. For those cars that are religiously maintained but still driven, they're starting to rack up the miles. Of course, then you have the thousands of previously very nice cars that have fallen into the hands of hack-jobs and amateurs over the past 25 years. We lose more of the nice cars to them and wrecks every day.
If you're trying to find a really nice 3rd gen, you better do it over the next 5-10 years. The nice cars will be bringing a lot more money by that time. There will always be a plethora of wore out junk out there for a cheap price, but is that what you really want to own?
