New to the board... 83 Firebird SE w/T-Tops, 305 + AC
Are you guys gonna help me get this baby cherried out and all working again?
Engine runs good, just has these little odds and ends to work on:
Power windows are not working
Door locks, gas lock & hatch lock damaged.
slight dent on front drivers fender & lightly sheered dent across lower drivers door that crosses over the door jam & past 6-10 inches.
I probably paid too much for it but oh well I love this body style, when i saw it for sale i was like... oh yeah!! this is the car I have always wanted since I was a kid! I bought it and didn't bother worrying about a bluebook value, since its something I know will be a real gem collectible some day.
Also .... CHECK OUT THIS COOL YOU TUBE VIDEO .. 82 firebird :P !!!

Nice, I love the early birds.
And I personally like the look of no rear spoilers.
More Pics would be nice though!

yeah, around here you see cars like that for 500-1000, I thought I was going really high with my estimate.. I could see maybe paying 4k for it if it had 10k on the clock, in perfect garaged condition, all origional and everything worked.. but wow thats a lot..
----------
Just for the hell of it I looked up the closest I could get, an 87 TA in perfect condition with 10k miles on it and the blue book value is 2,055....

Re: New to the board... 83 Firebird SE w/T-Tops, 305 + AC
It runs like a top, had the oil changed .. no leaks, the tranny shifts perfect, im in love with this car ... im like .. hell yea! I had it up to 100mph already and it has a second overdrive gear which lets you cruise at 90mph at 2000 rpm... not sure if thats stock or not... but it doesnt shift into it until Im hitting about 85mph ... I just traveled 200 miles on half a tank of gas .. is that good for a 305? I think its a 18 gallon tank is it not? Like 9 gallons devided by 200 is... hmmm 22.2 mpg? It might have something to do with the +4 Bosche platinums spark plugs I put in it tho... but yea you can mapquest it I went from Anchorage to girdwood alaska 100 miles a trip 2 x on half a tank

About the Z28 ... in the 80's that was a huge catch phrase ... everyone wanted one.. and if you mentioed Z28 there were a group of chicks hanging around ... if you had a Z28 the girls eyes would light up ... and ur getting laid... too bad Reagan started the AIDS scare... shortly after.

I wanted something with a CARB... something that I can fix without paying a mechanic with a $3k computer to diagnose... the mechanics charge like 100 a hour... I could buy a new carb for 2 hours he would spend chatting to his buddy... also im kinda leary about what kind of technology is embedded in the chips ... the conspiracy theries are out there... also i think new chips cost a fortune for Feul Injection dont they?

Re: New to the board... 83 Firebird SE w/T-Tops, 305 + AC
About the car with a 350 in it... new paint .. sounds like it was wrecked pretty bad at one time already.... If its not original matching numbers car, then its a big deterrent to the real collector like me... I sold my 67 dodge charger for a nice penny and bought this.. I love the fact that this car handles like its on rails... something my old charger lacked in..... it was like trying to control a train wreck... the power loss isn't that big of a deal to me I mean its time to be realistic with gas prices.. I was getting like 8 mpg with my 383 HP big block. Also its not an 87.. its an 83 ,, unless ur responding to the other guys post.. an 83 SE there are only 10k of those produced.

Are you implying that there is a direct corrolation between the rise in Aids cases and Z28 sales in the 1980's?

no thats just as far back as the current blue book goes, just to get an idea of what its actually worth, around here thats like a $500 - $1000 car.. I see you mentioned you're in alaska though, that could explain the huge price difference, I'm guessing 3rd gen's are harder to come by up there...
----------
fuel mileage sounds believeable for a 305 in good tune, if it has an overdrive its most likely a 700r4 car which I belive 83 was the first year for actually.. you coulda got that or the 200c..

I have to agree, that is pretty steep unless there is something that is one off. But as long as you're happy with the purchase, don't let anyone rain on your parade. Do you have any other pics of it?

no conspiracies ... Theres a new device that is coming out in 18 months that will allow the police to shoot bursts of microwave radiation at your car during a car chase .. if its EFI or has electronics in it ... it will pretty much short everything out.. how about that ? its made by Eureka Aerospace.

Re: New to the board... 83 Firebird SE w/T-Tops, 305 + AC
I dont know why people say its a steep price it was under the high NADA and they are very hard to find in this shape although not impossible but if you go to craigslist you don't see these available even if you keyword search it ... if your at a poker game, and I am playing, your ante would have to be proof on craigslist or whatever links, if you can get these cars in good shape at 500 - 1000, then start posting the links, otherwise, I call your bluff.
but yea you will run across an ad too good to be true scenario... it usually has a bad tranny or bad engine... something that will cost a couple grand to fix and at that point after you get that repaired your still looking at a nice $5k car... I don't know anyone without a brain tumor that would sell such a sweet ride for a 5 minute shopping spree in a clothing store.
But heres another 83 SE in good shape in alaska for $4300 .. i paid like 1500 more but I am the second owner pretty much. Also this is only a 5 speed .. i hate clutches... its hard to eat when ur driving.

I'm not trying to put your car down, if you're happy with it that's all that really matters, oddly enough I just checked nada values, and for my zip code the value is pretty much the same as the 87 ta with 2,145 as the average retail price, which is assuming it's sold retail and not by a private owner which would normally be a lower price, and takes no consideration of mileage or condition which is odd. Personally I think you paid about 4k too much for it, but maybe thats the norm in alaska for these cars, around my area they are worth far less.. still it's a cool car and I wish u the best of luck with it.

Looks pretty straight, and as far as price, if it's worth it to you, that's all that matters.

Yeah, those damn TPI computers are $3K easy. They can give you Hepatitis B too if you're not careful.
If you're happy with the car then that's all that matters but you overpaid, big time. You also don't have 2 overdrives. With only 10K made I'd definitely keep it in good condition, in a decade or so the value should jump up to around two grand or so.

DUDE!!! POST YOUR LINKS you say its a crappy car worth only 500-1000 in your state.. Im caling your bluff right now ... post any link on craigslist in your area that shows a car like mine 83 SE with a 305 Ttops AC in that pricerange of 500-1000 bucks... im basically calling you a liar, and your posting this **** because you want to try to depreciate people's opinion of what these cars are worth for your own marketable gain... what are you a car salesman or what? Bring it! I am asking for ANY links for a car like mine for like $500 or $1000 ... i just posted a link recent that is similar but a 5 speed for $4300 .... BRING ON YOUR LINKS BIATCH! It pisses me off people depreciating the value of things when they hav e no economic sense of the value of commodities or the value or depreciating vaue of the dollar.
305, AC and ttops..wow...quite the rare combo there I'm still laughing at your "numbers matching" comments

I think you need go no further than ebay for third gen pricing and buyer/seller values.
I paid 800 bucks for my last one. I paid too much but it came with the power bulge hood, 16" formula WS6 wheels with great directional tires, and it's a 5 speed car, so I got my pedals and hydraulics for my next project. The rest of the car was all bonus if you add the price of the parts together!
The old saying applies; an item is only really worth what someone is willing to pay for it...
If you are happy, then great. You need to know that you paid more for your car than about 90% of the people on this site. We don't need any more flames or hostility about that subject. The price is why people are taken aback.
We all appreciate how nice your car is. Please post more pics inside/out. I don't see those first run models too much!
Nice car! Just remember to slow your breathing! In through your nose, out through your mouth!
Now, let's get to some new threads about the little things you want to fix so that it's perfect!
One last thing. I don't think you have two overdrives. You have one overdrive and a lock up torque converter. The lock up can feel like another gear and it usually drops me 300 rpms when it comes on. Also, your computer will be affected by the radio wave killer from the cops. Your car will still run, but your electronic advance won't work and your computer controlled carb will not function properly.
You'll still get busted.
See ya!

Also, your computer will be affected by the radio wave killer from the cops. Your car will still run, but your electronic advance won't work and your computer controlled carb will not function properly.
You'll still get busted.
See ya!

Re: New to the board... 83 Firebird SE w/T-Tops, 305 + AC
Since you want to be a dickface for no good reason....I'm an auto damage appraiser and deal with vehicle values all day long and I can tell you that your car isn't worth ****. Things are quite different in Alaska but overall the value isn't even close to what you paid. All he was saying is that if YOU'RE happy with the car then that's all that matters. WTF does the depreciation of the dollar have ANYTHING to do with this discussion? Go back to your conspiracy theories you schmuck. No wonder why people think thirdgen owners are complete ****tards...
305, AC and ttops..wow...quite the rare combo there I'm still laughing at your "numbers matching" comments

You act like AC is a huge option
I'm not going to sit here and find links on Craigslist, I've been dealing with thirdgens long enough to know your hunk of cow **** isn't worth 5g's.

Woah guys, this is getting WAY out of hand.
Obviously you children can't play nice together so this is getting locked.
In the future, it would be nice to not see this kind of behavior again.
Thank you.
