Bought a mostly strip/kinda street car. 1986 Camaro
Picked up a new "Sleeper" yesterday. 1986 Camaro Berlinetta. 60k mile car. It's basically a small tire drag car that is street legal because it has lights and mufflers. It's stripped of all creature comforts, no power steering, no cruise, no heat, no ac, no wipers, etc. All the lights, turn signals, etc all work. The car has an aluminum head, roller, 377 on E85. Quick Fuel E85 850DP carb. Quick Fuel fuel pump. Gear drive, and vacuum pump. MSD ignition. Electric water pump. Long tube headers with 3 1/2" Borla exhaust that dumps before the rear end. Currie 9" Ford with a spool and 3.90 gears. Built TH350 with a Trans brake, reverse manual valve body, stall converter, and line lock. Mickey Thompson drag radials out back with skinny Mickeys up front. Koni's on all 4 corners. I was told the car runs 10.90's and pulls the front tires when it launches. I CAN'T WAIT to smash the throttle in this thing. We have a local 8th mile track that I have raced street cars on every now and then over the last 30 years. A buddy of mine bought the track this year, and another buddy leased the track and is running it. I'm looking forward to having some fun!! This thing sounds WICKED!!!

I'm thinking about making this car look like an IROC. I have both bumper covers, ground effects, and taillights.

Looks pretty sweet as-is, it's a real starship camaro!
I think you should test its burnout capability. Just to be sure.

LOL Pretty much. I did sell the blue 86 IROC. I wasn't trying to sell it, but a guy from KC called and I guess I couldn't turn it down. I actually didn't really enjoy driving it....always scared to get a scratch on it, or get blasted at an intersection or something by someone on their phone lol.

sidenote - if you need any centercaps for those jegs ssr wheels, I have about 5 extras. A few long and a few short.

Thanks fellas! I absolutely can't wait to drive this thing. The rev limiter is set at 7,100 rpm's. The video does nothing for it, it is ROWDY in person

Re: Bought a mostly strip/kinda street car. 1986 Camaro
If I had that car I would slap DISORDR plates on it for sure. Stripper Camaro with 3.5" duals, manual valve body, front end bobbing on drag springs, manual steering in parking lots, explosive throttle. Thing probably has a locker too and chirps tires in corners. That vehicle is public disorder if I ever saw it, and that's exactly why the car is so cool.

LOVE IT!!!
Yep it has a spool, so she's a tire chirper lol
The guy I bought it from said everyone would stop what they were doing when he pulled into a car show, like they had to see what was making all the ruckus

You would think adding the IROC dressing would also invite getting it a little closer to the ground. That said, there are plenty of IROC style drag racers.

Re: Bought a mostly strip/kinda street car. 1986 Camaro
yea man, if you want the long ones, sure thing. I'd say that $20 to cover shipping would be fine for me. The long ones I have are blank with no logo. I had peeled the logo off and made my own IROC-Z sticker that I put on those long ones. So, if you want them as blank, thats ok. Or i can try to gently peel some JEGS logos off those short ones. If you are creative, you can print out your own logo and stick it on the centercap too.
(FYI I will be ordering a set of rear Jegs SSR wheels in a few weeks time, so I am about to get two more shorties that come with those wheels). The tires i am going to get are also the same ones you have . MT ET Street SS in a 275 on a 15" jegs SSr star wheel. So, basically an identical wheel package as yours. I already have the front SSr star wheels, but ran a set of 255 ET streets on the 16" iroc wheel (will be up for sale in a month). I need a taller tire. I think your tire height is right around 28" right? Mine is currently 26.25" and im out of gear before the finish line.
Anyways....
I am certainly not short on centercaps. Just let me know.

That car wasn't born to be fancy. It was born to be simple and badass. That's its appeal.
Non-ground effect cars are destined to be bad boys. It's just fulfilling its destiny, man!

Would you care to measure the fender heights? That and the combination of parts to get there and post it here.
When do you think you'll get some track time?
When do you think you'll get some track time?
I won't be a lot of help, I have zero clue what kind of drag springs are on the car.
As for track time, I just got word a few days ago that the last weekend of April is when our local track is gonna open for the season. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

fantastic. nice plates. SO basically, two months of a wait and you will be in line for opening day at the track?! sweeeet !!
I just noticed, is that roll bad setup in the car a 5 point? I'm looking for a door bar(s) in the photos, but didnt see any on the passenger side. Unless its a swingout bar thats been removed? I only ask, because depending on your local track they might give ya some grief if you don't have door-bars (actually just one on drivers side) and run quicker than 11.49.

Yep, some jackass cut the door bars out. It's still a 6 point cage (there are angle bars at the bottom). I am having door bars put back in. I don't think id get any grief at my local 8th mile track, bt im not gonna chance it

On level ground, my drag radials are almost 28.5" tall. My floor drain messed with the previous measurement

I also got new rear wheels with 1" less backspacing. Needed to get the inside of the tires away from the inner wheel wells. Gonna switch the tires on the wheels tomorrow. You can see the deeper outside dish in the pics. It had 1/2" wheel spacers on it, so now I won't need those

heckkk yea! doing it right!
good job man
I'm ordering my wheels from jegs tonight, same backspacing as we discussed and getting those same tires. Most other tires are out of stock, and those ET street SS tires were darn good to me in the 26" tall version, so the 28" tall ones are sure to be awesome too.
