Abubaca's new 88 Iroc!
What's up TGO. Just wanted to formally announce the latest happening! I bought M G Brewer's 88 Iroc L98/G92 car this past weekend! Marcus is good guy, and I hope that whatever the finish products ends up being, I hope he feels I did it justice! ...and speaking of my goals...I really don't know yet.
Honestly as I looked around for a car, I've given serious consideration to many different kinds of cars. Far and away, my love has to go to the 88-90 Irocs. I like so many others, but ultimately this is my favorite. I looked at many 90% finished or better, but felt that I enjoy the build too much to get a car already completed. Every Camaro I've ever owned has been bright red, so I didn't want red again! -and I really like the not so common colors. The 88 medium gray metallic is a one year color, and a relatively rare one at that. In fact I had some praise for the car when Marcus originally bought it, long before deciding to sell it! I wanted a car that was rare and unique enough to save if I do a straight restoration, yet has enough mileage and in need of TLC that if I go custom, I'm not destroying a piece of thirdgen history. The purists won't like custom, and it's never fast enough for the racecar guys, but I need to make myself happy, and justify the time and money to myself. I bought my 89 when I was 24, and by 44, it was no longer the car I wanted, but was too far along to change directions. This one will happen a bit faster, (wife willing) and I hope to see one plan....one goal..... from start to finish in a relatively short timeframe. (meaning not 20 years!).
Anyhow, THIS car may look a little worse for wear, but is actually not a bad car at all! Suspension and drive train are in really good shape. New brakes all around, rebuilt 700r4 and new ECM and sensors on the engine. Miles are about 144k, but it runs strong. Underside has no rust, and aside from lots of road grime, it actually looks cleaner than my 89 did before I cleaned it all up! That's a crappy job, but I'm certainly up for that again. There's some panel alignment needed, a door pin on the DS door, and just a few dings, but the panels are all pretty good. Inteior is pretty good too, minus the front seats. Everything it needs are things I've done before, minus the actual paint sprayin, and I may even try my hand at that!
Anyhow....while I tidy up some things....get that door pin kit, fix an exhaust leak and do some cleaning, I'll be putting together a plan, goal, budget, etc. etc. and can hopefully start a formal build thread by the first of the year. For now...... .....it's good to be back in a thirdgen.

Thanks guys! Pretty excited to be at the beginning of another project!
Skinny, the paint code is WA 9536 ...I say one year only, but I've always taken that to mean on Irocs. Totally possible it's on other trim levels. I've also been told it's the same color that the GTA's used, although I don't think it was the same. Haven't looked TOO deep into it. ....and then of course, this appears to be a respray, and it's dirty!!!! ....so who knows!?!?!? ...but WA 9536 is on the SPID.

So glad you ended up with this car! You will do it justice. I look forward to keeping up with the build! It was a gut punch watching it leave, but hopefully now I can keep all my focus on my '90 g92, 5-speed car instead of multiple cars. My 7 year old son did ask me this morning, "Dad, where's the anger-rock?" HAHAHA I'll find him one when it's time.

Awesome!!! Man I'd hate to guess how many times I looked at the ad for that car, and my gears would start turning every time. If it would have been closer, it would have been in MY driveway a couple months ago
Solid bones for an AWESOME car! I can't wait to see what ya do with it!!! Congratulations!!!

Welcome back Chris! Looking forward to see what you come up with for this car. I like your thought process, start with a solid car with miles = make it the way YOU want!

Great color, indeed. Love it on the GTA.
