I'm surprised that car's still around! Our market is wicked soft right now, for any "classic" though, not just Third Gen's. I scroll through Kijiji literally every day, and there are tons of good deals that I see come up, yet nobody seems to bite. Ontario's so damn expensive that nobody has any spare cash to drop on old toys I guess

So I was driving home the other day and noticed that my voltage gauge is sitting at about 10V, and not really fluctuation beyond little movements when I use accessories. Is it time for an alternator? Battery is only a few months old, and hasn't died or anything

I plan on picking this tired old nose up tomorrow to replace the one on my car. The paint is faded but I don't see any cracks or damage, so I think it's worth the $80 including the GFX. Now, does anyone have any suggestions on how to paint it? I'd like to try my luck and see if I can get it nice before paying a shop to do it. I also don't have a garage or spray gun to use, so I'm basically confined to what ever products I can buy at Canadian Tire. Also, is there room underneath the emblem area to attach a brace of sorts? It doesn't look too bad, but that bit of sagging will drive me nuts.

This was last night's project. This was my first time painting a part that's actually visible, and fairly large, but thanks to Dagwood I think I actually did a pretty good job! I used a rattle can clear coat and got a pretty sassy drip down the side, so I'll have to sand that down after work today. After one more coat of clear though, I think she'll be ready to go on the car! The majority of the damage on my original nose is on the GFX, so this should make a pretty big difference to the front of the car.

As for the car though.. I haven't been driving it much because the leaking passenger side valve cover gasket has gotten a bit too smokey for my liking. After a long day of work, taking a look at how much nonsense I have to move in order to take the valve cover off has been enough to make me saunter my way right over to the couch, but I'd really like to commit this weekend and actually get er' done.

I'm sure the front ground effect will be a big improvement on appearance. I know what you mean, replacing the valve cover gasket on the passenger side is a pain as you have to remove the air diverter valve. Hopefully you get that sorted out. Your car is coming along nicely. Hopefully I can see it at the Queensway show one day. I'm going to try for this saturday or the next. I am having an issue with my catalytic converters that I had replaced less than 3 yrs ago. They are making a rattle noise.

It doesn't look like it's actually tough, more so just time consuming. So I hope at least...

You should come this weekend, the weather looks like it's going to be perfect, which usually means a pretty awesome turnout! If I get the valve cover done in time then I'll be taking the ROC, but worst case I'll take my Stang or a car from work. Really not in the mood to watch my car burn to the ground with all that oil burning off haha

Rockauto has a close out on VC gaskets, the good blue rubber ones foe like $3 or something. Actually they have a bunch of cheap closeout parts for 3rd gens.

Haven't done much with the car lately, but this weekend I finally dedicated some time to the car. Got my replacement nose GFX installed and man what a difference. I painted it purely with rattle cans so the shine isn't perfectly matched with the rest of the nose, but it looks 100x better than the other one did! For the actual nose, I'm going to have it professionally painted as it's way more noticeable than just the GFX. Then I can finally get the stripes back on.. and get a license plate bracket

I also worked up the courage to tackle the dreaded passenger side valve cover gasket, and took all of 10 minutes to regret it haha. I got it done, but certainly not without a steady stream of profanity, and frustration to the point of almost tearing up. I will say though that I didn't remove anything other than the (Air Diverter Valve?) and a few other lines. Real pain in the a** to wiggle the cover in and out without getting the screw (center bolt covers) holes stuck in the rockers, but it is possible. For anyone planning on doing it, I'd 100% recommend taking off the passenger side runners, and even the air tubes that run in to the manifold. It will make that job way easier, and it'll still end up being the same amount of time removing everything as you will spend trying to wiggle the damn cover in and out. I used the Fel-Pro rubber gaskets with just a bit of RTV in spots that looked like they could use it, and hopefully it seals it up nice. I banged the cover off everything while trying to get it back in so we'll see what happens haha

A little twist for anyone still following along... I ended up selling the car this weekend. I was loosely planning on selling it before this upcoming winter instead of storing 2 cars, but when it decided to start running like garbage, I let it go to the first reasonable offer I received. I believe that the car will be going to a good home, and I plan on convincing the new owner to start a build thread on here so we can keep watching the car come back to life. So for now, this thread is a wrap. I'll definitely end up with a new Third Gen soon enough, but it'll have to be the right deal and the right car.

It turns out that my old GTA was sold again, and the new owner got caught driving it with incorrect plates, so the car's currently stuck in an impound lot. It may get offered back to me for basically nothing, and if it does, we might be back in business

That's always a bummer to see. The buyer was so hot and heavy about his plans to gut the car and rebuild it ground up over the next few years. He also put up such a fuss over little surface rust spots and what not on the car, so I let him take it for $4000 which was also while it was running rough. Just another flipper I guess. And Vinny, yes that's 8000 CAD

I guess his tennis plan got in the way! Be curious to see what he gets. Even in the condition the car is in I figured it was worth more than the 3k American you let it go for. What he is asking about 6.5K American is what I feel it is worth. Damn Keats, you may have let it go for cheap! But then again not sure what the Canadian market bares.

I had it around the same price as he's asking to start, which was definitely fair. The market's soft on classics right now though, and all I really got were millions of inquiries that were nothing more than people wasting time. I had actually accepted an offer of 6500, but when I was driving the car to the buyer's house, it started stalling and running badly, so the buyer backed out. Current owner came the next day and out of frustration and lack of patience for online nonsense, I let the car go. Probably could have squeezed some more money, but some times it's nice to just get rid of one headache as quick as possible haha.

Good Point. No one wants to pay top dollar and just have it sit. Maybe he should take the long cold winter and address some issues with the car instead of just trying to make a quick buck.

Thank you! Unfortunately though I sold the car a few months ago. The car has been flipped around a few times since I sold it, so I'm really not sure of where she ended up. Hopefully the current owner is a member here and starts a thread, I'd love to see that car continuing to get the care it deserves. For a Canadian car, it was in really good condition
