My 86 Camaro "Darth Z"
This is my 86 Camaro. It was TGO's Car of the month in march. Much like every other Camaro here it is never finished. The car has an lt1/t56 setup out of a 95 z28. It's been freshly rebuilt with forged internals, light head porting, and every bolt on you can throw at it (my guess is 375ish hp to the wheels). Ultimately I would like the car to be a good time in the twistys, and still be streetable.
My current goals that I have not met are:
Starting at the front suspension
Front strut tower brace, adjustable strut towers
Ground control weight jacks, koni yellow's
tubular k member and front arms
new front sway bars and bushings
New steering hardware(drag link, tie rods, etc)
New steering box(suggestions for quick ratio and best feel are welcome)
I already have an astro steering rod
I already have 4 piston c7 vette z51 brake conversion from bigbrakeupgrade.com
Rear of car:
New rear end, not sure what direction to go yet, will probably be a quick performance or strange s60. Most likely 4:10 gears
Sway bar
Install rear c7 vette brakes on new rear end
I already have tubular everything except torque arm(torque arm recommendations? Adjustable or non adjustable LCA's?)
Ground control weight jacks and Yellow Koni's
Mid:
I already have spohn subframe connectors installed
Will probably run a crossmember mount torque arm
Currently using a Spohn t56 crossmember
Engine:
Planning on either an LE2 head package, or AI trickflow 210's. Which direction yet I do not know. The le2 package will yield close to 430ish rwhp, where as the AI heads/solid roller cam package I was told will get me closer to 500rwhp at nearly double the cost. Will cross that bridge when I get there.
Also planning on an aluminum 3 core radiator and high flow fans. The stock lt1 setup works ok, but I want fullproof cooling.
Exhaust:
Will be ordering a set of dyno don's headers. Long tubes are nice, but I'm willing to sacrifice the couple hp loss for ground clearance. Will do a dual 3" y pipe and keep it to duals out the back(or route side of car before passenger rear wheel? not sure yet)
Trans:
Will be going with a "viperized" trans rebuild, centerforce stage 3 clutch, alum flywheel, upgraded bell housing, B&M short shifter. I have an ls1 driveshaft freshly rebuilt ready for install.
Interior:
I want a simple roll cage that wont be a pain to get in and out of the car with, so probably a 3 point with a low door bar so I can mount belts and keep my head from coming off in the event of a rollover.
Need some better racing seats, any recommendation for good comfy ones that can get the job done would be appreciated.
Pedals:
I don't know about you guys, But I cant heel toe this car to save my life. The gas pedal is too far forward compared to the brake pedal. Has anyone modified the brake pedal to move it forward, or the gas pedal to move it aft?
Aero Package:
I plan on building a rear diffuser, front splitter, and a removable rear wing that mounts under the car and comes up the back above the trunk for track days(but might just run the hawks 5" for now and see how it does)
Any suggestions or input is much appreciated. I can drive(i'd like to think anyways) just need to get the car up to snuff.
