Could use some pricing help.

Guys, I need to know how much I should be asking for my car. I don't want to be ripped off but I don't want to look like an *** asking too much. The car has been in my possession for 4 months now and love it. I'm looking to sell it to get a manual / bigger engine, though.

All stock, 85 Camaro Sport Coupe. No rust, all solid, all factory. It's never been in an accident, carfax can prove it. The car had a tune up - plugs, fuel filter, oil, etc. I had an aftermarket ABS headliner with foam backed, factory-matching cloth on it. I just put a new sound system in it with dual kicker 800/1600W subs, Power Amplifier, Sony MEX BT-5000 HU, 4x6s, 4x9s all kicker. The sound system costs about 900 dollars.

I would like help in pricing it for a fair sale. If possible pricing with/without the sound system would be great as well. I might consider keeping it and swapping into my new vehicle, whatever that may be. I paid 1800 for it from eBay on 11/22/2013 I believe.

WOW......"1985 Sport Coupe 2.8l V6 MPFI, 52k miles on original engine."

In that shape, I think I would keep it and look for the other car.

Yeah it's a nice car! I wish I could keep it but given my position with lack of parking in the winter it isn't possible to have more than one car. I have to store whatever car I have in the winter and it's not cheap around here, unfortunately.

Re: Could use some pricing help.

you paid 18. in that condition/those miles, asking $3,500, i dont think is out of line at all - and you keep your aftermarket stereo equipment. thats my best estimate.

you should put that car up for sale here on TGO Classified Section. i've seen a lot of people talk the talk on being big fans of the sport coupes.

I paid $1800 for the car on eBay Motors. I paid approximately $917 for the aftermarket sound system about two weeks back from Sonicelectronics, crutchfield, etc.

I would really like to get $3500 AND keep the sound system. I haven't seen third gens where I live look half as good as this. They all have cracking door panel plastics, rotted, hacked up interiors, etc, etc.

I appreciate all the input, guys!

Re: Could use some pricing help.

Put it out there and hold out for a good price. It's a beautiful example of a S/C and worth it to someone. Meanwhile, drive it and enjoy the fuel savings in this age of ridiculous gas prices. Is that a chapman lock on the lower dash? Had one in my first Camaro, 84 2.8 S/C black on tan. Lost the key and it was not fun to get it off. Locks the hood and disables the ignition.

That's good advice! It's definitely an ignition interlock system but idk the actual name for it. I still have the original keys to this as well as to every other lock in the car.

Re: Could use some pricing help.

Up to you, but I would recommend keeping it and save up for an engine swap. It will be tough to find another in that condition for that price.

Re: Could use some pricing help.

If you do try to sell it, put the original wheels and radio back in the car. This car will appeal mostly to somebody is interested in originality

I know you don't have original wheels, but even some factory z28 wheels would be better. Does the RPO list the 14" rally wheels?

Re: Could use some pricing help.

With all original equipment, with low miles, and the car in that Good of shape, I'd take out the aftermarket radio and put 4500 on it. I won't even look at a car with an amp or subs in it. Too many kids tear their cars up putting in that stuff, and though I love bass, and love giant speakers, most (not all) but most people that I have known that have systems don't take care of their rides, As far as maintenance goes. I much prefer a all stock car that is clean, that I can mod my self.

Re: Could use some pricing help.

Honestly I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a V8 manual, in as good of shape as that car appears to be in, for the price that you'll get out of the car.

It has the makings to be an awesome sleeper if you did a V8-Manual swap though. And heck, you could fit the V6 and tranny in a crate and store it if space is an issue.

Re: Could use some pricing help.

If this is not your daily driver and you end up selling it (to someone that will take good care of it)at least you will have the time to look for another car.

The question would be = do you have a place to do a engine /transmission swap .

If not I would sell the car to the right person and buy a car with a stronger power plant and manual transmission just like you want.

The problem would be that the transmission in the new car would have to be a transplant because I don't believe the 5.7/350 Third Gen. Camaro came with a manual transmission.

If the cars not perfect, so what. This site is dedicated to the fixing and rebuilding of our cars.

If you don't have room for a swap you most likely will still have room for doing smaller projects. That might be feasible.
