Car is hard to start and idles low and rough

Hey I need some help. I have an 86 camaro and I just bought it a month ago. And I got it running a couple days ago. But it is very hard to start and takes 2 or 3 tries to get it started. When I get it started you have to keep your foot pushed down on the gas or it will idle down and die. But then earlier today I started it and I took my foot of the gas and it ran,but then I pushed the gas to rev it up then it died. My service engine soon light is on also. It has brand new plugs and plug wires. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Don't know enough about the engine set up. Sounds like a sensor. Oxygen sensor or throttle position sensor.

I know the oxygen sensor will be one because the person who had it before me cut the wire to it and I don't know what wire it hooks back to. My buddy has a code scanner so I will scan it. The engine is a 305 TPI.
