After 4 days of hard work, late nights to 2-3am. Countless trips to Autozone for small parts...

So the LS1 and T56 is officially installed. I got the pedals in to, complete pain, even without a dash board.

Next is installing the radiator hoses. Then hooking up wires. Hopefully I'll get it to start within the next few hours.

I keep hearing that the ls1 only needs 2-4 wires to actually start it. I'm having a hard time finding info on that. What wires are they? I've got the harness that came with the pullout. (2000 Trans am)

Lookin good. How is the spacing on the front wheels with that k member? Lots of folks say it shifts the wheels up some I haven't seen one in person yet though. So get it running

Looks good in there.
Which side are you going to put the battery in? Have you decided on a CAI, yet?

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build- Update, LSX in!

Thanks guys,

Debased, hows your swap going?

The K member definitely moved the front wheels about 1-2" toward the rear of the car. I didn't even think to check until you mentioned it. So I'll see what I'm going to do about it.

I decided to move the battery to the spare tire area in the rear. So I've got to get a battery box, and venting for it. I'm not sure what CAI I am going to go with. I've been throwing ideas around on how to get a sweet ram air setup, but haven't put too much effort in it.

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build- Update, LSX in!

I'm still in part collecting phase really. I've got my l33, a t56, and a 4th gen SS rear end. I still need wiring harness and will be rebuilding the l33s top end with brian tooley cam, valve springs, and lifters. Oh and an improved racing oil baffle. But I'm at least pulling the engine tomorrow and I can get in on all that fun sanding and scribing action.
Glad yours is moving along so well.

What wiring did you end up using? What did you do with your pcv set up? And where did you hook up the steam lines?

This is a great thread! Making good and fast progress!!! Much faster than mine...

I'm curious about the PVC system too. I ended up piecing mine together with fuel hose and "help!" fittings. For all the effort, I could have just used the stock.

I was thinking about using this http://www.saikoumichi.com/Stage1_LS1_page.html and the setup TEDsgrad recommends here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...-your-ls1.html

Why you guys cant run LS6 valley cover ?
Cleans it up really nice and fairly easy to do just need a grinder
And if using LS6 intake with LS1 coolant tube just need to grind bottom of intake flat
And grind part of the block for clearance of PCV system in valley area

Are you going to try and use the 4thgen a/c control panel and heater box or mod the 4thgen dash to utilize the 3rdgen stuff?

I had read that a dual catch can works better and it's $150 and no grinding.

Grinding isnt that bad it was quick .
Dual catch can setup would work of course 2 things are always better than one seems over kill tho for a NA setup unless your on boost

Seen many people run ls6 with single catch can and no issues or compliant, that is what im going to run

You can make a catch can from home depot for $20 many people have good outcome with that

I like the most bang for buck

I chose the dual cans for reasons listed: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-lsx/699592-fresh-air-port-silly.html

But for a street driven car who doesnt see those conditions ,dual catch can setup has its advantages ,but a single can will just do fine For a street driven car

Agree, a street driven can do just fine with one.
The filtration inside the can is very important, though. No doubt they can be copied as long as one has good comprehension.

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build- Update, LSX in!

Had alot of progress lately. The car is back on the road, and I have put almost 800 miles on the motor and trans. TONS of little problems have occured, and I have just ironed them out one by one.

I took the car to a local show yesterday afternoon, and here are pictures.

I havent showed you guys the interior.
I got Summit Racing seats for the front, and some nice 4th gen leather seats for the rear. New black carpet. And I have a trans am dash that was wrapped in leather. The car has a way more expensive feel and look in the interior now. It still needs more work. The center vents will be replaced with digital gauges, the door panels and center console will be sent off to the upholster to match the dash. Possibly going with 4 point harness aswell.

Ordering some 18x10.5 wheels for all 4 corners today. Plans are a really wide rear tire, with atleast a 275 tire up front.

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build- Update, LSX in!

Looking good , Stock thirdgen intake is very restrictive intake but it blends in the old with the new

For 10.5 up front is would suggest a 285 at least , 275 would look really stretch on a 10.5 as compared to a 10 especially if your going to run a fat tire in the rear there's room up front for a 285 even a 295 maybe

Great build man!! Swap looks incredible! How do you like those seats? Do they hold you in tight around corners?

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build- Update, LSX in!

Thanks!

The TPI intake is there just so that I can have an air filter setup for the time being. I am designing a new intake that will be routed where the battery is, then draw air underneath the car. It will be a ram air setup. Should be pretty sweet.

I want to go for the square tire look, so definitely will go with at least a 285 up front then.

I love the seats. They aren't the most comfortable, but they hold you in very well.

Anytime Coolwheels!

Car has been running great. Even though the T56 decided to blow, and had to be sent off to be completly rebuilt. The car is almost done. I just need to tidy up some wiring, get some wheels, and another set of racing seats, as my summit seats were returned due to them falling apart. Alot will be done in the next two weeks.

LS power is great!

Here are some pictures that were shot today. I plasti dipped some grand sport stripes on the car.

Thanks ya'll.

grngryoutmyway, Thought that was you in the black car on sandy plains. Caffeine and octane was packed. I got lucky to find a spot in the middle of the show. However lots of the LSX cars were not there, as they were up in KY for the LS Fest.

-Update
I wrapped the TTOPS in Carbon fiber. I have yet to get AC back in the car, and with those clear glass TTOPS the car got HOT. So I figured why not wrap them. It'll look cool and keep the heat down. I have to paint the faded trim pieces now.

I picked up this Supercharger yesterday. Plans are to install this sucker, and have the time of my life. I'll get a smaller pulley, and they say you can block the "silencer ports", which will give you a nice loud whine. I might port it, but I need to do my research. It may not be a dyno queen, but fun factor is what I'm going for here.

Plan A
Get a Cowl SS hood, and mount the S/C a few inches on top of the plastic LS intake. I would have to fab up a stable enough mounting plate, and an idler system. Of course all the plumbing as well. I feel like this would be a cleaner setup.

Plan B
Do what the member Pocket did, and mount it on the passenger head at an angle. This is a tight fit, but I might be able to use the stock hood.

Its a gen 3 M90.

Here is the for sale thread for the car above. A member bought it, and has a thread on it somewhere.

Awesome build! What happened with the Summit seats? Was thinking of getting a pair bc they have them in tan.

Re: Pro-Touring Supercharged LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build- Update, Forced Induction

Thanks!

The harness slots, right behing your head has two plastic "D" shaped pieces that the harness slides through. Both pieces ended up breaking. This allowed the seat vinyl to become loose. It ended up happening on both seats within two months. I could have glued them back together with no problems, but decided to take them back and search for a different racing seat.

I don't have pictures and it is hard to explain

Great build and very impressive. The summit seats paired up with the 4th gen leather rears look great together.

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build

Latest addition has been 305/30/19 size tires in the rear, and I am running a 285 width up front. The car grips to the road excellently.

Next big thing on the list will be a big brake kit. I am going to go with CTSV Brembos with drilled and slotted rotors. Should have them on by the end of may.

Just detailed the car for spring! Here are some pictures.

The trains in the picture were made by GM aswell.

FYI, Plastic gauge is really cheap insurance... Kinda flipped through the thread so I dont know if you put in new bearings. If the bearings are in spec, and dont look burnt or scored, they will be fine. imo

Looks great man. You change your mind on the CF on the t-tops? I just noticed the tow ring on the front as well. What brand is that?

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build

Thanks guys! Didn't go with the xxr 526 because they didn't have them in the size I wanted. I'll end up getting a set later down the road though.

Pulled the carbon fiber of because I didn't like how it was matte. I felt like the gloss glass was a much cleaner look.

And Z28, I replaced all the bearings while I had the motor apart.

Re: Pro-Touring LSX/T56 91 Z28 Build

I've had a little lifter tick for a while. One morning on start up that tick got pretty loud. Time to see what damage was done.

I decided I'd rather pull the engine and work on it on a stand, than to pull the heads and possibly cam while the motor was in the car.

So out came the motor.

I replaced the lifters with LS7 lifters. And a whole bunch of "while I'm at it" went down. "While I was at it", I also got some LS6 243 heads. Along with nice dual valve springs. And figured I'd throw a bigger cam in there. Along with a new LS6 clutch and slave cylinder.

And then, "while I was at it" I decided to respray the engine bay, again. Figured a fresh coat of paint won't hurt anything. So I sanded all the old paint off, and started from scratch.
Here it is in primer

Fast forward a lot, after a new tune, and tons of other odds and ends, everything is put back together. The car PULLS harder than ever.

To say the least, I am very happy with the new setup.

Following the "lifter fix" I took the car on a stretch of the Hot Rod Power Tour. I drove the car a total of 1,000 miles and it drove great. Here are some pictures from the road trip
