My 86 sport coupe build (pic heavy)
Hey guys this is my 86 coupe, its my first car, when I first got it it looked decent but it was ran into the ground mechanically, was overheated bad, had no brakes and was just in sad shape. Since then I've slowly been working to fix all of the issues and generally improve the car inside and out. I'm re writing this in winter 2015, so I've had the car for a little over 2 years now. She's a happy 3rd gen now. Running fantastic, stopping, and looking good! And getting a 383 stroker soon So here's my build thread from start till now!
*** UPDATE *** Here are the most current pictures as of 2/18/15, Always check the end of the thread for new pics, too lazy to update!
Here's when I got the car
Then the top end rebuild begins, as you can see, the car was badly overheated before I got it. Bottom end is a reman .030 305 that the previous owner bought.
The engine was stock other than short headers and a torker 2 intake. Previous owner even used the stock leaking qjet on it! Then later replaced that with an even worse holley 650 spreadbore. Garbage, this must have ran like crap!
Now here's what that looks like today, it is a .030 over 305, 9.5:1, lots of head work, cam, double roller chain, accel ignition, eddy intake, holley 600, hedman long tubes ect.. (getting a 383 stroker soon! See end of thread for details on that)
and then all of the brakes had to be done, and I mean all of them, master cylinder back

Re: My 86 sport coupe build (pic heavy)
And now to the looks, here is a before and after of the interior, new gauges, dashpad, console lid, steering wheel and lots of cleaning!
Now today as of 2/18/15
the outside doesnt look like its changed much but it has been much improved, paint has been buffed, clay bared and I wash and wax it a lot, plastidipped wheels, grid tails and a few other things, but here are some current pics
Well if you get this far thanks for looking and the build will be updated as new things go on!

Looks nice! Sport coupes are so over looked and under valued. It really is a shame since they are such nice cars.

Thanks man, and I completely agree, I really wish more people would appreciate them. They have a bad rap because most of the ones you see are basket cases

Here is the same setup with the flowmaster, I liked the idle with the flowmaster better, but the bullet sounds a lot better at every other rpm

Re: My 86 sport coupe build (pic heavy)
The future heart of this car, the foundation of my 383, a .030 over 1970 lt1 4 bolt camaro block, we have lots of parts to choose from when building it, Ill be able to have it when Im older. it was machined by my dad and then sat in the garage with other blocks for years, I dug it out and prepped it, its ready to go! (updated pic as I've changed the color from chevy orange to metallic grey)

The garage reminds me of Toretto's garage in The Fast and the Furious. Is that a grey '67 Camaro behind your car?

Re: My 86 sport coupe build (pic heavy)
Here are the latest projects, I painted the manifold with some vht aluminum paint, turned out really good, also building a new q-jet for it, the one I had was a 1969 off of a big block chevy, we modified it just a bit too much and the idle circuit was too rich, went out in the garage and found another center, this time a stock 1970 350 camaro carb, we will modify it as needed. also the car will be getting the accel super coil put back on to match the distributor, we had it off because we thought it was bad, but it ended up being a ground issue

Re: My 86 sport coupe build (pic heavy)
Few more projects done, cant do a whole lt because of the crazy winter we have had, anyways I did an led swap, in the dash, heater controls, shifter panel and the tach so far, looks pretty cool. also got a start on polishing my old m/t valve covers, did the top one by hand a bit, already looks good, cant wait to break out the buffer and see what it does! In the meantime also did an engine bay detail and the first wash of the season!
