89 IROC Z VS 1991 Z28
I have a bit of a problem, but not a bad problem to have.
I have been searching for the perfect 3rd gen fixer upper. I have looked at and passed up on many rattle traps and gutted camaros. After many months of searching, I have narrowed my search down to 2 cars. I cannot make up my mind as to which I want.
This is what the two contenders are:
1991 Camaro Z28 5.0 TPI. T-Tops Good running car. Does not use or leak any oil between oil changes. This a great unmolested 3rd gen survivor. We are 3rd owners and purchased car from friend. Body is as straight as they come and that is why I bought it but son is wanting 1995 to 2002 Trans am. Does not appeared to ever been in an accident. everything in the car works even the A/C and heat.
89 iroc It is a iroc z with a 350 tpi. I have put a new heatercore in it, new k&n filters, msd plug wires, new tires on the rear, new rear shocks, new brakes all the way around, and a new 52mm throttle body with new tps sensor and idle air control valve, I have put a complete new exhaust system on the car, it has headers with 80 series flowmasters and sounds pretty sweet. The car runs great it has 135000 miles on it and it is a automatic with a 700r4. The ac and heater works and the cruise control. this car does not have T-Tops.
I am in love with both of these cars, but I can only own one of them. Any advice. I am considering waiting till one of them sells and just picking up the other, because I cannot make the choice on my own.
Please help.

Both cars seem to need about the same amount of work, and the price range is right for me.

Re: 89 IROC Z VS 1991 Z28
Hi there,
That is a nice dilemma to have. Personally, I love IROCs, so I am biased.
Some things that I didn't care for very much with the Z28 was the big spoiler: it makes the rear look a little clunky. And the monochrome paint: the stripes on the IROC are a nice finishing touch. And the wheels on the IROC look better than the Z28 wheels. Just IMO.
So there's one vote for the IROC.

I am leaning more toward the iroc, mainly because it is only about an 1 hour 20 min drive to go pick it up. The Z28 is about a 5 hour drive for me.

I suppose I am somewhat biased, but I would take the '89 because it is a 350 car AND a hardtop.

Looks like the IROC it is. The guy with the z28 called me this morning and said they were driving it last night, and it died. It is now in the shop. Not sure what the issue is with the car at this moment, but the scales have tipped in favor of the IROC quite a bit.

Re: 89 IROC Z VS 1991 Z28
Not planning any drag racing. Pretty much just a fun car to drive on the weekends, and keep in the garage for the most part. Looks like it is a no go for the z28. The seller of the z28 said it is in the shop and has not heard anything back from the mechanic. He has taken the ad down and says if he has to sink alot of money into it, he will just keep it. So Looks like I will be a happy owner of an 89 IROC. Planning to drive over and pick it up tomorrow afternoon.
