My new 87 IROCZ
Well She hasn't arrived yet but the seller has sent me some photos of my newest acquisition. It cost me $12,500 but it is in great shape. It has 29,500 miles on it. I wanted an 87 with a 5 Speed and the G92 package. This one popped up on Ebay a couple weeks ago. The guy who sold it to me is a great guy and I promised him that if I ever decided to sell it, he would get the first opportunity to buy it back. I have no plans to part with this car. It is almost EXACTLY how I would have ordered the car I wanted but couldn't afford back in high school. Even the color is right! It was special ordered with 3.73 gears. The only thing I would have added had I ordered it was the overhead console which it doesn't have. Its useless but it looks cool. Also for some reason the original owner didn't want door moldings. I can't believe that it has no door dings because of this. The guy must have never parked it in a normal parking space. I would add some if the 87 ones didn't require drilling the doors. It has all the power options except mirrors, driver's seat and cruise control. I am the third owner.

Just an FYI, the car does not have 3.73 gears. They were not available in '87 for this car. The G92 5-speed comes with 3.45 gears in an Australian Borg Warner 9 bolt rear.

Re: My new 87 IROCZ
Don't really care either way. I am just going on what I was told. The original owner passed away a few years ago and the guy I bought it from was the second owner. It will be here in the morning. Just an FYI, it would be better to say the car couldn't have come from the factory with 3.73 gears in it instead of saying it doesn't have them in it. You have never inspected my car! Its possible that the original owner had them installed by the dealer before he took delivery.

That's a real beauty! Enjoy it and take care of it. Looks like you scored a really nice IROC.

I also am familiar with the ebay listing and it was advertised as original except the muffler, paint, and pulleys. He then states the car was 100% original except for those changes. If he believes the car is original and has 3.73 gears, then he is incorrect. That's all I was stating.

Re: My new 87 IROCZ
Well you did come off that way. No big deal. I worked at a Ford dealer here in California that did that kind of thing all the time. We had some great techs! I really am not worried about what rear is in the car as 3.45s will do just fine. At 42 years old, and coming out of a 2012 Shelby with 550hp I am not looking for neck snapping speed. I just wanted the car that got away from me back in the day and I am really happy that I found it. I really enjoy being a part of forums like this one.

Re: My new 87 IROCZ
My car showed up friday morning. Just a side note. Dont ever use a shipping company called Door to door transport out of florida. They are brokers and full of crap! Anyway I cleaned her up and took a few more pictures. I think Scott is right about the rear end. I think It has the 3.45s. I bought a GM service manual and it shows where to look for the axle ratio on the axle tube. I am going to check for sure when I can get underneath the car. I was also disappointed to learn that the original owner had replaced the center armrest with the RPO codes on it. Fortunately I have the original window sticker. My car was built at the Norwood plant. What a trip back in time it is to drive this car!

Re: My new 87 IROCZ
I finally got my car registered and out on the street after what seemed like forever. I have been too busy to do much with it. Its been 20 years since I have driven a 3rd generation camaro. Coming out of a 2012 Shelby GT500 mustang I wasn't expecting to be very impressed with the camaro's power. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I have had four other 3rd Gens and this one definitely is the most powerful of them all. Getting in this car is like going back in time for me. The smell, the sound and the view out of the windshield just takes me back to my high school days. I drove it 200 miles and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the drive. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get another one. This is a great site. I have been reading through all the different subjects and have had a ton of questions answered. Maybe I can even get some time to make it to an event out here and meet some of you guys. Thanks for the great site!
