I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Picked up this rough POS on Saturday.
1983 Camaro Z28. Hardtop. 5.7L (Swapped in) and said to be Th200 with 4.11s.
So far the engine comes back with a block Id of 3970010, Heads 3973487X which gives it a good chance to be a 350.
The trans is said to be a Th200, Havent had a chance to really check it out but from a quick glance the pan is black but that cant explain alot. I will be checking it out tomorrow.
Was also told it had ''4.11s'', On the highway going 70ish (Speedo didnt work) RPms was around 2900. I am still yanking the cover and confirming what it has, the kid couldnt even gap sparkplugs right.
Anyways some pictures.
Sorry for the crappy pictures.

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Anyways, She was running really rough. The kid who owned it before me really abused it.
Brought her home, checked the oil and she was running on 1QT of oil the whole drive home. Replaced the Oil Filter with a Purolator and put some Mobil 1 in her. Cleaned up the underside and checked for leaks. Sure enough engine being painted Chevy Orange, I observed a leak coming from the Moroso Valve covers, Cleaned up the gasket channel and replaced the gaskets with Felpros.
The PO also bought a Autozone Special triple gauge setup that included a oil pressure gauge which had a kinked line causing a oil leak near the firewall. Yanked the fittings and installed a stock Oil pressure sending unit for the stock gauge which needs to be replaced. Autozone gauges were thrown away.
The car also sounded like it had a really bad knock, but I knew it had really bad exhaust leaks so I didnt make much of it. I fixed a total of 5 exhaust leaks. The driver side header had the last 2 (Nearest the firewall) header bolts missing. Put in some spare ARP bolts I had laying around and tightened down all the other loose bolts. Passenger side had two missing in the front as well. Put some in and tightened everything down. Still had a leak somewhere and found this..
Put it back together, removed the clamp and welded it shut. Also found a nice surprise. a 3' Cutout and a Flowmaster 3' Catback. Sounds decent, still getting replaced with a Hooker Catback though.
I also did a full tune up on the engine, Pulled all the spark plugs and all look good but they were all gapped ranging from .15 to .25.. Gapped them at .40 and put them back in. Two spark plug wires were burned due to really bad routing and replaced. Runs like a champ now, Power steering pump whines a bit so that might be getting replaced.
Overall the car runs decently, I adjusted the TV cable since it had about a half of inch of slack as well as the throttle cable. Going to replace all the fuel lines with braided lines for better safety. I also noticed when hard braking it pulls to the right, this might be due to the bad tires but I have these waiting to go on..

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Thats for sure, only original parts are the GFX and Rear Window Wiper (Which works and I am in love with.. )
Interior is trash, PO decided he wanted a black interior and decided to paint all the interior parts which is now flaking. I will removing every panel and attempting to remove it. If I cant, I have my whole interior from my old 92 Camaro in the corner of my room.. I really do..
Anyways so that doesn't bother me much.
I have my old 17x9.5 Torque Thrusts waiting to go on. I plan to refinish the Irocs that are on it now and polish them.
My plans are unclear at the moment.. My previous ride which I sold on Saturday as well was a 00 GTP. Which had probably my favorite engine in it, a L67.
Soo much potential but being held back with FWD. I had a wild dream of picking up another Thirdgen and swapping in a spare L67 I have in the garage mated with a Series 2 4th Gen Trans with a 2400-2600 Converter in a Thirdgen. Slap on my Polished Gen 5 Blower I was going to put in my GTP with a Intercooler and 2.8 Pulley on a XP cam and have fun in the 12's with under 2 grand invested...
We will see, Right now its just getting her to be a decent driver with what she has now.

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Yes sir, Looks like my cousin got into a bind selling a few parts on here. Cant log in his email, so he probably changed the password.
Anyways. Yes the one 88-90 Iroc wheel is getting replaced with a first gen wheel. Its seriously almost mint, no rash no nothing. Going to keep as a spare.
As far a L67 power plant, the chances of that happening is all up to my friend getting a V6 Camaro at his yard, When he does or if he does I am yanking the Trans, Harness and all the misc items to adapt it to a 3rd gen. A M90 swap has been done in the 4th gen world and I am sure being in a Thirdgen would give a bit more better clearance since 4th gens have that issue to begin with.
We will see, right now the engine it has now is running smooth and is actually pretty decent. Still gotta dial in the carb more. Hooked up my old Wideband and doing tuning that way.
Also quick question, the PO said the car has a Th200, Any way to confirm this? I looked under the car and at a quick glance saw a Black small pan (Comparing it to a 700r4/4l60 that I am used to seeing)

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Got a few things done today. Got the car in the air. Fixed a few more Exhaust leaks.
I also saw that previous owner installed those spring blocks, removed them probably in the first 5 mins of noticing it had em. Also cleaned the underside and found where my leak is from my power steering pump.
Drove the car around the area and the turning right when hard braking is gone now, don't know if it was the removing of the spring blocks or replacing the shitty driver side tire.
Also kept tweaking the carb some more and gave it 2 more degrees of timing, pulls good.
I have a question though, the Speedo does not work. Are these cable driven for a 83? I looked under the car around the trans searching for a cable system similar to a 700r4 and found nothing. Only a unused transmission connector on the driver side (Which is?) and a vacumm like source near the tail housing. Any help?

My '83 is cable driven. It has two cables actually. One from the drive coming from the trans to the cruise control (the vacuum diaphram thing on the DS fenderwell) and another from there through the firewall to the back of the speedo.
I'd recommend if you still have that duel needle MPH/KM piece of crap that only goes up to 80 MPH....get rid of it. Mine was the most bouncy inaccurate junk I've ever seen. There's other mechanical speedos that go up to 140 MPH with a single needle out there.
If you have a 200R, I'm not familiar with it or know how to what/how you hook up a speedo to it....I'm assuming yours is not working? The cable on my T-5 attaches near the TS on the DS. Maybe the vacuum thing on your tailshaft is a modulator for shifting?!?

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Thought I should update this thread!
Well as you can see, she is now lowered! The front had spring blocks the PO installed, removed those and cut the stock springs 3/4 of a coil. Rears got heater hose mod and removed 1/2 a coil. Perfect stance now, Now she needs new wheels and I will continue to adjust the height from there.
As far as that goes, I have just done all the needed things to make her a good daily driver. I flushed all the water the PO was using as coolant and put some fresh antifreeze, Did a full tune up, Dropped the tran pan and inspected for any shavings (Everything looked good), Popped the pan off the 10 bolt to confirm 4.11s and sure enough they were. I replaced the broken power antenna with a working one. Replaced the stock radio with a older aftermarket unit (stock will be getting fixed and Aux mod done). I did a pan drop on the motor to confirm it being a 4 bolt and did a new oil pan gasket. I removed the crappy Autozone gauges and got the stock sending units installed and got the stock gauges working.
Alot of things were done pretty much lol All just making old and broken stuff work or replacing it. I already started coating the car with POR-15 before installing fat mat and reinstalling the interior.
Soon to be purchased are Founders Performance PHB & LCA's, Wonderbar, AGX's all around, and still debating on refinishing the iroc wheels and just getting Firestones Indys and calling it a day or getting my TT2's some tires and mounting those instead. Still undecided.
Anyways thats it as far as the 83 goes. Just really enjoying it. I wish all of you could of driven the car when I bought it and see how it drives now. PO was seriously an idiot lol

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
Well not much to update on. I have been Daily Driving her since bringing her home.
I have done of maintance work to it, mainly suspension. Got the Holley tuned in a bit better and she is now somewhat a fun ride. I still have to get rid of the Crappy Sp2p Intake and Flowtechs, I know upgrading from these would give a really nice noticeable performance upgrade. Although right now the car is a low end monster but you can feel it die after 3500rpm.
Anyways some pictures!
Current plans are pretty much as said already, engine wise is replacing the Crappy Sp2p with a Performer or Performer Rpm, Replace Flowtechs with either Hedmans or step up to Dyno Dons and maybe for the heck of it rebuild the Holley 4160. Trans shifts decent, not having overdrive sucks but its liveable, I might consider going 700r4 though.
As far as exterior goes, I plan to ditch the Iroc hood and get a original 82-84 Z28 hood as well as Tail lights. Wheels are being debated on between C5 DD's in either polish or machine face or just going TT2's again.

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
TT2's were sold since they were 4th gen spec and I wanted 3rd gen spacing.
I haven't updated this thread in a while but alot has happened to it.
Here is a short list:
Replaced 82-84 Front bumper to a 85-90 Nose/Chin
Founders LCARB's
Iroc/WS6 Sway Bars
Replaced Flowtechs with Hooker 2055s
Refinished the Iroc wheels
Went back to untinted Tails
Picked up a Harwood Cowl Hood
Got all the interior pieces I need.
Basic routine maintance (Trans filter change, oil, etc)
Anyways, Pictures time

I am picking out wheels at the moment. Still undecided on running Vette wheels with spacers or running 15' Drag radial/Skinny combo...
Going to be swapping out my Holley intake for a RPM Airgap in the next few days as well.

Hood is pretty much there since I need the hood clearance, well I actually need another one since With my Airgap, 1' Spacer and Air cleaner, I have almost no clearance.
As far as updates, from those Pictures. Car blew the Th350C. Lost all forward gears and had to be pushed home. Replaced the Th350 with a 700r4 which had small slipping issues and just basically did the swap for the sakes of getting it on the road.
I also got rid of the Draglites, went back to the irocs before coming through on a deal of abused TT2s for $120.
Here are some current pictures of it.
For those wanting some more pictures of the Draglites, here are some of those too. Loved the wheels but always wanted to rock some TT2s and got a offer for them I couldn't pass up
Specs on the wheels for those wondering were 15x8 with 4.5 Backspace, 275/60/15 Et streets and 295/50/16s (Pictured). Was lowered around 2' all around. Rubbing was an issue. Had to roll rear lips.

Re: I present the 1983 Camaro Z28...
That is how it looks. The 700r4 I swapped in with the slipping problems got worse and a few days ago, lost 3rd and 4th. So going to be yanking it out and replacing it with another 700r4 that hopefully is in decent shape.
The motor is running very strong though, No idea what cam is in it, or if it even has one. Runs very strong with the Holley 4160 dialed in. Only upgrades I have done is Airgap and Dizzy upgrade. Spent countless days getting the 4160 dialed in, runs amazing but still planning on going double pumper soon, just waiting on a good deal to come up but it seems everyone wants $200+ for a 650-750 DP that needs a rebuild...
Anyways I rarely do burnouts but decided to do so as a last hurrah for it for the week while it gets its 700r4 placed..
Here is a engine shot that i had to dig up from Instagram.
Looks like crap, runs like a champ.
