Re: My new $300 86 Iroc-z28
work the pb blaster in and then come back with a propane torch then hit it again with the pb.. do that over and over a couple times (i dont know if its supposed to be but in my experience pb isn't flammable-though you dont wana burn it off before it can do its job) wipe dry or use a quick drying solvent to get what you can off and come at it with the bolt extractor... hey at least you have something left of the bolt and dont have to drill it out

Re: My new $300 86 Iroc-z28
Yeah i was gonna say at least you got a good amount of bolt left to get it out. My first step would be cut a groove in it and try a flathead screwdriver. If that doesn't work grind flat spots on either side so you can get vise grips to grab. A lot of times its a good idea if you have never taken the bolts out of the exhaust manifold before to hit it with a propane torch before you try and loosen them. Also try and tighten it slightly to get it to move before trying to back it out. Just a couple tricks I have learned breaking bolts. At least its not the locking bolt in the differential. I have had those break and had to grind through the whole center pin before.

looks sweet but since i have no ls1 plans i wouldnt need it... unless i took it upon myself to fab up a cold air intake - those snorkels are the main choke point in a tpi system !

Scraped the led engine bay was just irritating and looked cheap instead put a strip under the door like what the newer cars have starting my new job at autozone this week so progress should pick up here soon also going to start mock up on the cover piece

Itll be fiberglassed then possibly make a mold to create more so far ive layered aluminium ducting tape down still need to mock up the pass side. Another reason for the cover is if I do HID projector lights you wont see anything but the front housing

Re: My new $300 86 Iroc-z28
looking good man, and for the guy who said skip the screwdriver, i neglected to mention useing a big flat head and then using an adjustable wrench on the screw driver to get as much torque as you can. Keep dousing the bolt with pb a couple times a day, then when you goto get it out hit it with a torch get it as hot as you can without melting any rubber seals or anything around it. Then instead of a quick jam, you want to apply even presure to avoid breaking off the rest. You DO NOT want to mess with drilling and tapping, it never comes out good or easy. Oh and BTW don't park your car next to an apartment building with idiots in it. The people next door lit their house on fire and almost lost my camaro while i was at work. My car was parked less than 10 feet away and got doused with 10000 gallons of water and bits of burning house. At least the car is not hurt( I don't have fire insurance)

Hey thanks man sucks to hear that sort of thing happen glad mines in a garage away from everybody there has been a slight change in interior ditching the dash and center going with a 97-02 dash/console reason for this is for the gauges I want to keep the swap as simple and plug and play as I can plus I can now see what people mean when they they say this style looks out of place as for door panels I dont know yet going have to see how the gta panels flow with the dash

Dude! You do nice work sir!
What are you trying to accomplish across the the front, above the headlights? It looks interesting.

best metal polish ive used is blue magic.... Ive used it to get plastic headlight lenses back to clear as well... after sanding with high grit sandpaper of course.... cleaned up the front markers on my z28 real quick too... that what i like to keep around

Re: My new $300 86 Iroc-z28
if ur talkin about plastic with the "sandy first or apply first" then the would depend on how far gone your plastic is, the headlights were on a buick park ave. and they were as yellow as banana peels so i sandy'd first but after whet the blue magic did to my markers on my cammy i think i could have gotten away with a buffer and the blue magic only although i only used the blue magic and a microfiber towel on my markers when i did em.... and blue magic is what i used to finish of the polish job on my plenum... but if you are looking to get a mirror polish you will have to start off sanding and do a lot of it stepping down from 80 for the roughest stuff (like the graininess on the cast alum. parts) all the way to a 200 wet sand to get to the mirror polish i wanted, you can also spend the money and invest in some greaseless abrasive and/or some rouge to speed up the process (found that out after the fact ) but be careful not to screw with any machined parts and a little bit of material taken off can mean a shitty leak... but if you are trying to just polish up the alum. as it is then blue magic is good for that too.... even better on a buffing wheel... also remember that you dont want to use purple power or the like on alum. because it makes it discolor and micro-pit so your polishing efforts will have been in vain... i just used dollar store tub and tile cleaner to get the alum. powder off that will build up (thats what you are doing when you polish is basically sanding on a micro scale)... hope that hels and i answered and covered most of it... just ask if you want to know more

Re: My new $300 86 Iroc-z28
in my post where i said a 200 wet i actually meant 2000 grit wet btw... 200 would get you anywhere near a mirror polish.... and id be careful spraying much of the coil packs themselves.. i would be a tad worried about heat distribution.. but i dont know since i dont have an ls1 myself... u should check first tho

Not to be negative, but I'm not too big on the polished cylinder heads, and I really don't like the carbon fiber. But on that note, it's your car, build it the way you like it and the hell with what everyone else thinks.

looking good man! it will all be worth it when you are cruising around in a car you built! I know i love driving my camaro around cause i built just about every piece. Even though there are holes in the floor and some of my gauges don't work and stuff i still enjoy driving MY car that only I know how it goes together. 2 Races down this year 3 to go.... hoping I get paired with a normal 3rd gen next race. First race guy had race gas sick motor, second race v8 twin turbo second gen. No chance either race. Looking good i enjoy seeing your progress!

I'd go with cam. Make it run good then make it pretty.
Where did you get the (I assume) mirror directional lights? That looks like an interesting modification
