Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
My trans was $450 and the same goes for the rear with the new carrier put in it. It wasnt that expensive. All in all i have probably just a little over $6,000 in this car counting the purchase of it.
Anyway, here is the new timeslip i have for the car. I'm the car on the right, car #8470. The tracks date was off, i ran this yesterday juy 29th not july 11th.

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
It's a 350 bored .030 over to a 355 with flat top pistons, around 10.5:1 compression ratio. I have 1.5" roller rockers with a comp cams camshaft. It has a 110 lsa with a 236/242 duration at .050 and 520/540 lift. The heads are basically stock just the guides were cut and screw in studs were put in to accomodate the higher lift camshaft. If theres anything i missed just let me know!

Wow what a transformation man! I'm impressed you're 17 years old, good to see that you have a good constructive hobby and it looks like you know what you're doing. The only thing I don't like is I'm not a fan of the louvers or the wheels. I think a nice set of 17s or something with the car lowered a little bit would look nice, but all that matters is that you like it! It's definitely something to be proud of. Do you have any videos of the car or anything? I'd like to hear that motor..sounds like it runs pretty good! Congrats on breaking into the 11s!
EDIT: one thing I forgot to mention that would make a big difference would be cleaning (if possible) or replacing the washer fluid reservoir and coolant overflow tank would make a big difference for not a lot of money!

My dad's been a big help with everything and teaching me alot, so alot of this comes from him! But thank you i appreciate the comments! Also, i got rid of the louvers. I never even had them on my car. So we agree on that one! And I am getting some new wheels sometime in the future, but i cant get 17's as those would kill my 60 foot times at the strip. Lowering the car also may be something to come! Also i do have a video of the 11.91 pass my uncle took, I'll definitely post it when he gets it to me!
Edit: To respond to that, yeah thats another thing i will have to do! I dont even need the washer fluid as i will never take the car out in rain or winter, but i leave it in there to show it's still a street car. Alot of guys at the track have a hard time believing my car runs what it does, so we like to leave alot of the regulars in the car to give it more of a WOW factor, lol. But it definitely could use some more cleaning up!

nice, im swaping in a crate vortec into my car too, im putting in the lt4 hot cam and staying with the 1.5 roller rockers, i wanted to go 1.6 but with the extra cost and head work it doesnt seem to be worth it. youre pulling good numbers with 1.5 rr so i guess i should be fine too, thanks for the input

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
Just an update, i have now installed a B&M megashifter in my car. Looks really slick. I bought it mainly to be able to control the 1-2 shift at the drag strip, so now i can manually choose my shiftpoints to carry out 1st and 2nd a little longer.
Also, i have a 2.5" true dual exhaust going in in the next few days! Hedman longtube headers with an x-pipe to daul magnoflow performance mufflers.
I will have pics of both coming soon!

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
Alright sweet! Thank you for letting me know on my picture malfunction, lol. They worked on my computer but noone elses. Anyway, the only thing about different wheels on my car, is the fact that it's mainly a drag car/weekend cruiser and so 17" wheels would not help me to hook up at the track, and would be a pain to swap on and off again. I'd love to see how they look though if i just had some i could bolt on for pictures! Wheels are definitely something i am looking for in the future, just they will probably be a 15".

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
Who knows maybe i could try a bigger wheel for street driving and then have other ones for the track...It'll just depend on how much time i want to spend changing wheels.

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
Well I havnt updated this in a long time, and I figured it is about time I do. I have a thread going on in the drag section documenting most of what I have been doing but I figure a lot of people who may not be in to that don't always visit that part of the boards. So here are some updated pictures and things I have been doing to the car!
First off, I bought a nine inch rear end which looked like this when I bought it...
Then looked like this when I was done...
Then I got some new tires and wheels for the track...
Then I installed my new custom tuned carburetor from BIGS performance...
Installed the rear end into the car...
And here are some nice shots of the car all together...
Also just took the car to the track on Sunday and ran an 11.89 at 114.28 mph! Still drive the car on the street, and am enjoying it even more at the track!

Trying to keep this thread updated since I fell of the map on it for awhile. A small update... Built my self a cowl intake that I'm hoping to help the times out a little bit. Was a fun and cheap project to work on the past week or so.
In the process of being built...
And finished....

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
I know what you mean they aren't very popularly built. I can see why not though, they are a little bit of a pain to build. But I guess the truth on how functional it is I will know this weekend when I go to the track. I will let you know how it goes!

Did you make it all with sheet metal, or did you use a cake/pizza pan for the lower part?
EDIT: You definitely should get cold air in with that setup!

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
Hey, that looks nice!! I gotta do something like that to mine one of these days! Mine would be a little more challenging I think because my air cleaner sits all the way up inside the cowl. I've thought about a lower pan like yours, but I think it would interfere with my throttle linkage...

Re: Rags to Riches 1984 camaro build thread
Just another small update for you guys. I have replaced my stamped steel rocker arms with Scorpion 1035BL Full roller self aligning rocker arms. I have to say these things are really nice. The stamped rockers actually were in really great condition and it was really clean in there, but I still like the look better now. Here are some pictures for you guys.
Before...
And after...
And last here is a picture a buddy of mine who was at the track last week took of my car and did a little bit of phone editing with it. I thought it was a pretty cool picture.
Anyways, no races this weekend so I wont have any updates for you guys on what the roller rockers change for me. I will let you guys know in two weeks though!

Another cool shot I got at the track today. Showing the slicks wrinkle and the front tires coming off the ground!
