car show help!!

im entering my car into a car show saterday, and sunday and since its my first car show i need alittle help from you guys on what to do. the carshow is 2 and a half hours away so if already cleaned the interior since i wont have any power out at the park that im going to be at and im going to wash the car and rims when i get to the town that the show is at. when i get there i may go back over the plastics to clean them, clean my windows, and clean my tires so what else? im leaving out at 6 in the morning so i can get there about 8 since the car show starts at 9 so that gives me an hour to get a good spot and detail alittle more. i know my cars far from perfect but this should get me started on my car shows. any tips guys?

Re: car show help!!

My car is always clean, so I simply do a bit of detailing to rid the car of bugs and to give it a bit of a shine. When I first started going to shows, I'd arrrive early. Didn't take long to find out that an 8 to 4 show made for a LONG day. Nowadays, I show up late morning and sometimes leave early (the trophies no longer have any allure). Take a chair and several bottles of water. Chat up as many people as you can--especially, thirdgen owners, which around here are about as rare as hen's teeth.

im gonna wash it when i get there since its almost a 3 hours drive just to get there, and its a small town out in the middle of no where so ALOT of dust, its almost like almish country but its not, its hard to explain. and yeah i believe the car shows from 9 to 3. awards are givin out, same as a dash plaqe and a goody bag. so im taking chairs, a cooler full of stuff to drink, and maybe something to snack on. im not sure. im going to get some pictures so i can post on here. im excited.

Wash, polish & wax the day before, also clean the interior & evertything the day before.

Things you should bring to the show:
-a good detail spray
-a couple of microfiber towels
-tire dressing & applicator
-window cleaner & paper towels
-shamois
-a box to keep everything in & a chair

Wash & wax the night before, so when you get their allyou have to do is shoot her down & maybe a quick wash. All the bugs & debris will come off easier witj a fresh coat of wax.

Re: car show help!!

I carry a can of spray lemon Pledge also - when engine cools a bit I do hoses and plastics under the hood with it - cleans well, shines nice, and leaves a nice lemon scent! I'm not kidding here - an old timer car show guy told me that trick - folks (and judges) never really consciencely realize that the lemon scent adds to their 'liking' of the car.

With that drive, and the country bugs - yeah I'd wash when I arrived. Then dry - then use a quick detailer like Mequiers.

I have a soft-sided cooler that has a plastic tub inside. I store all my car wash goodies in there - good wash soap, spray detailer (Meguiers), tire wetter, White Diamond polish for metal/chrome, my Pledge, Windex, a roll of paper towels, a few rags, good interior plastic cleaner (not Armour-all), a detail brush (for the dusty vents, etc.), and several microfibers in the outer pocket. Get to car wash, pull it all out, use the plastic tub as a bucket - wash, rinse "bucket", put everything back in. These 'cooler' work great - everything fits nicely, has pockets on outside, insert works a s a buckey, has carry strap, and vented pouches on the ends for the wash mitt.

Autozone/Advance has a drying cloth called "The Absorber" - much better than chamois, soaks up a ton more and never streaks, never molds, never stinks like chamois does.

I also have an el-cheapo $10 autovac that plugs into cig lighter to touch up floor mats after my arrival.

And - if you ever decide to get one of those dusters - make sure you get the California brand - all others leave lint behind - only the real California Duster brandsw work.

Oh - use dash cleaner on dash FIRST, then do inside windshield with Windex - the protector products are greasy, and leave a mess on the glass that you have to go back and redo again.

Good luck! And most of all, have fun! And as mentioned - chat up a storm with anyone willing to have an ear bent - best advise on engines, cars, etc. come from show guys that have "been there done that".
