Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well yesturday after work i went and worked on the camaro for a bit, i cleaned up the rest
of the t-top weather stripping from the roof, and i started to finishs makin the patch panels for the pass side floor, no it wasnt fun making them when all u have is tin snips and a rubber hammer, i need power tools lol, but i got the job done, i marked out the templets for the driver side on the metal i need to cut but im taking those to work today and goin to cut those out there, as soon as those are done i can start working on patching the lil hole on the lr rear quater and than the rr wheel well, i also will be ordering some por 15 today so i can coat the inside floor to stop the rust from coming back hopefully it works, i had sandblast the t-bar yestruday at work now i just need to fix some dents and paint its semi gloss black.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well i finished cutting out the patch panels for the driver side just need to start welding them in and forming some panles to fit better, got all the panles for the pass side finished but need to sand blast the floor to find so good metal to weld to. all i gotta say making and form the panles for the floor was a lot of work but saved me some big cash with the full replacment floor at 380 side. but im happey with the end result place its a floor the no one see cause its cover with carpet but its strong like the factory. hopefully i can get the car moved to the other shopp this coming weekend to do all my welding and pull the motor out to start doing the under hood next.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well today i have made my mind up that im goin to part out my car and look for something newer and in better shape than what my car is in now, the more i got into the car the more rust problems i found turns out when i pulled the windsheild out cause there was no molding around the window the rust built up so bad the window pillars just rusted away. so im goin to part the car out of what ever i can but im keeping the motor tranny, rear end and wheels from the car. i had found a1991 rs camaro that ill be looking at this weekend and see what i can do for a price he is asking 2500. and its a 5spd t-top car. or ill wait till after xmas to find a nicer shape car. it really sucks that im giving up on this car but its more than i thought i can handel, who knows ill try and get ahold of the ppl i sold my old camaro to and maybe try and buy it back from them.
ill keep u all posted.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes a car can just be too much to deal with especially if you have the option of getting rid of it and finding something not quite so dirty. Good luck, let us know what comes of a newer car.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

yea with having a very little place to work on it and lack of tools to do the work its needs to have it fix is another reason to part it out, i would like to find something that i can insure and enjoy alittle bit and work on it at the same time, ill be pulling the drive train out of the car and keep that and freshen up the 383 and trans so when i find another car i can drop it in there same with the rear end. plus with winter coming i know they will be popping up for sale around here hopfuly i can find a good price.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

so my hunt for another camaro is still on, i went and looked at a 91 rs camaro last weekend, which looked good and all but the guy was being an ***, wouldnt let me take it for a ride or even drive in it and would move on the price, plus it had some major rust in the wheels wells and i kinda wanna stay away from those lesson learnt lol, but i did manage to find an 87 camaro sc rust free the ad says,t-top auto missing motor and transmission. from what it looks like in the pics, looks really good other than the red intiero, im goin to try and look at this one this weekend, so what i was thinking is building my own z28/Iroc-z clone car with this 87 i already have a few things from my current z28 like hood and wheels and also i can use the rocker molding brackets to put on this 87 sc and just look for the proper gfx after, also i had sold few things of my z28 so that will help with getting funds for my next project also this car is goin for 750 bucks and im sure i can get him down in price as well. so whats ur guys opinon on this idea, pick this car up cheap and build a clone or just keep looking for the actul kinda of car?

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well last night i went a looked at another camaro, it is a 83 z28 hard top car has no motor and transmission and the car is a 5 spd car, car is soild through out the whole car been stored in doors with a cover on, very little surface rust and just needs the frt bumper replaced cause the tow truck driver wrecked it and comes with a bunch of extra stuff, guy is asking 400 bucks, so i think ill grab this one since it is in way better shape than my car and plus i still have my drive train from my car. i should be picking it up i a week or so i left a depsoit now i need a trailer to get it.

well i picked up the newest project camaro, way more soild than the last camaro, has a bit of surface rust but im getting the whole car blasted and ill have its etched and primed as so as it i get it back, the car was parked in a storage shed for the last 10 years the guy i bought it off of has so many projects on the go, the one he's working on right now is a 69 camaro with a ls2 t56 trans so he need to make room in his shed for parts thats how i got the camaro, now for the pics they look rough buts its not bad in person.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

no floor pics yet i had it up on the stands out side my cuzin place but didnt have my cam with my, the floors are soild i was jabbing them with a screw driver to see if itll go thru which i didnt which is good, just a lil rustty from being parked over the last 9-10 years, and the block thats in the car is a 350 the guy had for mock up its just bear so i have a spare 350 at my dads place that has a hole in the block from water in the blcok during winter season so those rotating parts will works its way into that blcok so ill be good to have a back up motor for the car. the over all car is not bad its self im gointo buy new fenders cause i dont really like how the ones that came on the car are and plus new ones will only cost 110 for the pair. im waitng on my cuzin to put his camaro in storage so i can take over his garage before snow falls.

Are you going to try to keep it looking like 1982-1984 cars or are you going to update the graphics? I hope you keep it looking 82-84 personally, I like it better then the 85-90 graphics.

those are headlight guards to pervent rocks from smashing the headlights i took those off as soon as the car showed up.

im goin to keep the gfx the same other the rear bumper and quater gfx im goin to change them out for the iroc style, i seen a 84 camaro on cardomain and he had the iroc rear gfx and bumper and look like it belonged on the car.

lil update, guy at work gave me his exhaust system off his wife car from when it had sbc in it which now its has a BBC running in the 9s on motor, its hedman headers coated with 3" magnaflow exhaust, i heard it on the car before and sounded nice.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well today i ordered some parts for my 5spd trans that im rebuilding that is goin in the camaro and i also put a deposit on a new motor that i couldnt pass up, well the exhaust i got from a guy at work has a motor that he pulled out of his wife trans am to put a bbc in it, the motor is a 391 stroker with aluminu vette heads with 2.02 valves and 1.6 valve ported match to a HSR intake, fulley complete turn key motor with 11:1cr it dynod 400 at the wheel and ran 13 in the 1/4" with a 700r4 and 3:42gears it also comes with a nos plate and it run 11 on 150 shot. so im picking this motor up for 2000 with harness ecm ele fuel pump msd ignition parts the works his wife just wanted it gone it was taking up space in there garage, so it should be a nice lil pc for my camaro. ill get picks of it at the end of the month when the guy gets back from vegas i forgot to bring my camara today.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

yea the car looks rough but its not bad for what i paid and the funny thing is a car thats running for about 4000 will have the same holes this one will, i already stripped off the frt fenders and sand blasted the pass side fender and junked the driver side since it had some damage, i pulled the side gfx off and everything is pretty soild, im just happy the floor is not bad. the other thing about this car is the transfer of doc papers says this car has only 34000km on the car his 2007 which hasnt driven since so knowing the car has low click i will take my time and make it look good while i do a resto mods on her.

Nice project! I'm sorry about the 82 but as a lot of people said, it can become too much sometimes. At least the new roller looks good! I can't wait to see this thing when it's finished.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

im still looking through colors i have a cyber grey in mind like the new chevy pick trucks have, the car is black right now but i dont wanna keep it black had too many black cars now lol, this 83 is in better shape than my 82 was, the only thing on the 83 z28 is i gotta cut out a part of the quater panle on the pass side just above the gfx to fix a hole, i pretty much cut out the quaters from the 82 cause they are in mint shape, im kinda glad i found this 83z cause im likin the hard to better cause i wontt have to pay so much on weather stripping lol.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well so far this new year hasnt really been a good start for me, the motor i had put a deposit on the guy sold it to a friend of his but he gave me back the money i had put on it, so i ended up buy my cuzins vortec motor off him and pulled the heads off and sent them out to have the valve guides machined for new valve springs, next ill be ordering a hot cam and edlbrock air gap polished intake for the motor. im waiting on the new frt fenders to show up for the car. i alson picked up a complete ls1 disc brake system frt and rear with brake booster and master cylinder for 160 bucks i couldnt pass it up. i just order the frt ls1 brakets from flybye performance so should see that next week sometime. as for the body i picked up rear and side gfx from a 89 iroc-z for 60 bucks and i have found a matching frt but the guy wants 400 for the complete bumper and gfx. i think i may just wait till i get my taxes and i may just get it and have that out of the way. so since i have tomorrow off from work ill start pulling apart the frt brakes and spindles and rotors from my parts car and have those modifed for the ls1 brakes, which i also have to order a boot kit for the frt. one thing that sucks the most is i have both my cars at 2 different locations and at other ends of the city so ill be doing a lot of driving between both cars. lol ill post pics as i go on with the ls1 brake swap. and new parts.

well with all the snow gone and my 83 z28 is now clear of snow i had towed both my camaros out to my cuzins where i have room for both my cars, me and my cuzin looked over both cars to see what the game plan is goin to be since it always seens to change, turns out my 83 camaro is more work than i thought both rear quarter panles are shoot one with major rust the other with alot of bondo, and the rear frame rails are rotted out but the frt half of the car is ok. so we are now useing the 83 z28 to fix the the 82 z28 t-top car. so ill pulling the doors off the 83 since they are i great shape so those will be prep for paint . so the 82 z28 t-top gets a second chance at life. i have already started to modif my spindles and had the rotor hats machined to fit the ls1 brakes, i also got my brackets from ed miller to complete the swap, i had sold my iroc wheels, so i can purchase some 18" chrome iroc wheels from a friend that owns and s10, so with the nice weather coming ill have more progress on the cars and more pics to come.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

you think it would be a better idea to cut the rear rails off of some base model from a junkyard and decide something new with the 83?

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

nah that is goin to be a lot of work to fix the frame rail i rather patch the holes in the t-top car,i think the reason why i gave up on the t-top car so fast was i had no one to help me out and to push me to fix it and go on, after my other cuzin looked over the cars with me he said i should contuine on the t-top car plus, i really wanted a t-top car lol.

Its too bad you couldnt come down to the dry western states and get yourself a body shell. I hit the PNPs here in CA and they are crushing perfectly good car bodies...no rust to be found anywhere. Good luck with your project.

Re: My 1982 Camaro Z28 project krzy z

well the work on the camaro is coming along very slow, i just traded some seats and panles and a rear bumper for a complete 5spd swap from drive shaft to flywheel so that was a wicked deal and funny story about that the guy i made the trade to is a buddy of mine who seen my ad on the net and came down to look at my parts. which worked out wicked, im also getting a complete mint iroc-z gfx frt and rear bumpers better than the ones i have now. im also getting ready to start mounting my ls1 brake kit just ordered some longer studs for the frt rotors. here are some pics.

thats all for pics, hoping next week i can start the body work and have the engine bay painted which will be painted white pearl.

I love that second pic, in the OP. Even though the shadow seems to indicate either a pole with elbows, or a cactus with it's hands on it's hips
