Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
im not doing the exhaust, thinking about not painting the block anymore, i miss my car lol and its only been 3 days , so far that tranny line end is the only thing iv broken. im gonna tackle the y pipe bolts on the camaro tonight then try and get the valve covers off again, i cant seem to get them to move sadly, on the s10 engine i was able to use a pry bar to pop them off, when i tried on the camaro i started to bend them so any tips here guys? im gonna finish pulling the acc stuff off tonight untill i can get the valve covers off so i can pull my intake and swap it over, thats the only thing that stopped me, after i get my acc stuff out im gonna re spray them black so they will look good again. hopping to have this done by the end of the week but since my valve mistake idk is thats gonna happen like i wanted. also where is a good place to hook the chains too on this engine when i pull it? the s10 has brackets that i could hook too, one on the front of the driver side head, and one on the back of the passenger side head but i dont see these on the camaro, and suggestions? ill take more pictures tonight and hopefully make more progress, wish me luck.
on the side note, is it bad when you have to remove the thermostat neck to be able to get the raditor hose off? lol, i couldnt get the hose to budge and i was worried about breaking it or streching it so i just took the neck out.

Looks like its coming along for sure, I can't blame you for popping another 2.8 in there. If I were you I'd keep the old heads off the other motor and port and polish them some, if you ruin them oh well, if you get all the way through them without ruining them then you might be able to turn out better hp numbers. As for the trans line I would use a compression fitting to fix it, although someone else might have a better idea.

camaros get a lot of sun on the interior due to the windshield and large rear glass. the sun will heat up the oily residue from the armor all and "cook" the plastic and it will eventually become brittle and start cracking

oh, update as promised, didnt do much with the camaro today besides i removed the alturnator and the upper brackets to it and the dizzy, on the s10 engine i got the block almost all the way clean, got the dizzy installed but not timed right yet! and got a first layer of paint on. pictures coming soon, btw the valve covers on the engine now im not using, just used them to protect the valves, im gonna have to pull the valves and push rods anyways because i need to replace the lower intake gaskets!!

haha what are you referring to as "lower intake gaskets"? I don't see why you'd have to remove the valves and pushrods for ANY gasket replacements

Yeah those are your intake gaskets, You don't have to remove the pushrods on smallblocks but you do on the 60V6 I believe.

he's saying you will have to remove the pushrods on your engine. it's different than a normal v6

Paint looks pretty good, post a picture of the engine again once you get your intake mounted on it. I think they look better with the intakes on them lol.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
I have been reading through this whole thread, I think you got a great deal at $250.00..You have done a great job getting things done! You will find that you will drop money often in these cars. Only because we 3rd Gen owners want them to run and look their best!!! I thought the story behind the car was very beautiful, sorry to hear about your Grandfather. I had a 86 Iroc about 15 years ago, sold it due to family growing. I never stoped regretting selling it. So i was looking to buy a new type sporty car and found my 89 RS, its not the TPI Iroc, but i enjoy it and love working on it. Oh I did the sea foam treatment and thought S*** whats with all the smoke!
I had the injectors cleaned>MORE smoke! After about 3months no more smoke. Runs great! Keep plugging along, you won't regret it. There are times when I think I am going to sell this money hog, but i won't! wishing you the very best!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
you have to take off those long bolts with the star shaped heads on them. A small socket will do it, like a 4mm i think
as for the intake... POLISH IT!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
got alot done today...kinda. i got the 2nd coat of paint on the new block, got the rest of the pullies off the camaro, got the egr tube off but i broke one of the bolts off in there...im just gonna block it off, the new manifolds dont have the passage for it anyways so i cant use it as is. got the valve covers off, everything unplugged besides the grounds, iv got the y pipe bolts, the bellhousing bolts, and the moter mounts and its ready to pull. figured out my exhaust leak, 2 of the passenger side exhaust manifold near the firewall were missing so thus my leak. im ready to get this done guys... i miss my car so much lol, can i put all my accessorys on and stuff before i drop the engine in? i also plan on putting my oil filter on before i drop it in to save me time lol. pictures soon!

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
i know with the v8s dropping the engine in with the acc on is almost impossible. with the v6 being shorter you should have enough room to do it.

Re: Is this 86 worth this money?
well guys, the engines out, believe it or not, that engines a junkyard engine!! the oilpans been off and have permatex on it, the heads stamed with a DADS stamp, same with the inside of the water pump so thats always fun to find, after i got the engine out i noticed all my tranny fluid on the ground though, i cant see where its leaking from....i dont think i punctured my pan...atleast i hope not... after i pulled the hoist away, i saw a hole in my blanket i had over the bumber protecting it....oh no.... i ripped through the blanket and messed up my bumber.... perfect..... so i got a busted tranny line, a tranny leak from idk where, my bumbers gorged like hell ,and im leaking power steering fluid......... pictures soon......
