450 Pump Install
I'm looking at installing a 450 pump in my stock hangar in the tank for my Ls swap. Concerned over the smallish return line size. I'm putting in a 408 NA, and running e85 with it . Anyone have any recommendations on this? Injector sizing is going to be 60lb injectors with regulator under the hood. Do I need to worry about the fuel heating up with such a small return. I searched and only found 1 person doing a similar setup but he was boosted 5.3.I'm doing new 3/8" fuel lines from tank to engine bay but would need to keep the 5/16 return size in the sender.

How much power are you targeting? I don't think you'll have a problem, especially with a quality regulator. I assume you are going to rewire the system to properly feed that pump?

I will be adding a hot wire kit and good regulator.Btr estimated power with the cam and head package at around 600 ,I'm more concerned using the e85 and not being able to supply enough fuel,I won't be tracking the car just street and occasional strip use.

Re: 450 Pump Install
Is e85 that little of a benefit? I was thinking you would see a little more power from it. Using the efi calculators,I'm good with gasoline on a 340lph pump. The E85 needed the extra from a 450 lph pump and injectors. I guess boost just benefits the most from it though. Maybe I will just keep it on 93 and go with that setup. Its a lq4 stroked,11.25 comp, with afr heads and btr speced cam with these specs.

Re: 450 Pump Install
There should be a small gain, but I think it works a lot better with a carburetor where the fuel has more time in the airstream to reduce air temperature. I think the guys with port injection are getting most the gains by bumping up compression ratio.
Engine temperatures will go down which can be advantageous if you're having trouble controlling engine temps. It can also be disadvantageous if you're having trouble getting enough heat to warm up oil to optimum levels.
And it contaminates the oil with a lot more water than gasoline. And of course you run out of fuel a hell of a lot quicker.
It runs really clean though, your heads and pistons will be spick and span clean with no carbon.
I don't know much about it, these are just little tidbits I've picked up here and there but never actually looked into it for my own interest.

Surprised it's so little gain, would of have thought the extra timing would have helped more.

The current draw of the 450 pump exceeds the rating (13A) of the yellow pass-through connector in the fuel hat.

Re: 450 Pump Install
E85 Fuel Systems need to be larger (Flow Higher Volume) and more corrosion resistant than Gasoline Fuel Systems.
I would run Dual Pumps...
One runs full time, and the second on a Full Throttle Switch.
Injector flow numbers should be at least 50% greater than what you have rated for Gasoline.
-10AN Feed with a -8AN Return.
Your Filters (Pre and Post) must be able to Out-Flow your Fuel-Pumps...
Otherwise you will just have a restriction, and never get the full amount of fuel flow for a given Fuel Pressure Number.
PTFE Core, Braided Black Nylon Hoses through-out.
I always recommend a second small (1 to 3 Gallon) Fuel Tank, with a small Electric Fuel Pump that you run on a toggle switch.
This makes for a very quick and easy way to periodically flush out the Fuel System
(Especially if the Car will be sitting for a good while).

Re: 450 Pump Install
I'm going to just stick to gas for this setup, to run E85 is not worth the benefit on the NA setup. I'm just gonna run a 340LPH pump and should more than cover me for Gas . Thanks for the insight on the E85 fuel systems. I'm sure doing this swap I will have more questions.
