Fasteddis V6-LSX Build.

Hi everyone. Ive been a member on here for many years now and I have been a die hard V6 member. But I am now going to get my feet wet in the V8 world a bit.

I bracket race every weeeknd and have for many many years. I have a turboed V6 thats a mid 11 second car but god is it inconsistant and many many races i have lost because of this. Let alown I have pushed these V6s to the limit.

My goal now is to start a lsx swap on my 1991 camaro. Its a originaly V6 car so I know I do have some work in front of me.

I just figured I would start a thread here so that I can lay out my progress.

Here is what I have so far....This exact block was given to me from a friend as he owed me a few bucks and went with a lq4 6.0 block. Im still learning but hopefully this gen3 block will work for me.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-4853l/overview/

My goals are to have a consistant 11.0-10.50 Engine at the race track(pro class). I would like to keep it N/A for now if i can or add in a shot of n20 later. As hard as it is for me I want to stay away from boost with this set up and even stay with a Carbed set up if I can. I would want to run pump gas though.

I have a fully built th350 right now that was behind my V6. I just freshined it up this past winter. I would like to upgrade to a TH400 with a brake but for now im sticking with the th350.

I am looking at either piecing this whole engine together with rotating assembly kits or piece by piece. But I want a engine that can handle 500-600Hp all day long and be reliable. My budget isnt really a major concernt but I would like to say arround 3000 when said and done for the engine itself(not including the motor mounts, exhaust, springs, exc) I dont want to build a engine capable of 1500 hp knowing ill never get there as this is a street car and i want to keep it as a bracket car specifically in the pro class.

Any tips on building this engine from the ground up and what is nessasary(forged crank or stock)..... Thanks everyone for the tips and hints.

Ill add that Ill be doing all the assembly, welding, fabrication, and tuning on my own either efi or carbed.

Good luck! My friend has an LQ4 carbed,Turbo 350 Mustang LX with a lil headwork and cam and its runs low 11s consistently at the strip and probably has 3k in the whole car! And it has decent manners on the street as well. So I think you should be good.

Thanks.

Ill probly ask some dumb questions along the way. But a 11 flat car would be nice. My other friend phonix firebird is also doing a lsx swap so that should help me out a little.

So here is my list so far.

I will be buying Eagle speciaty forged rods, also forged pistons(not sure on the brand yet), using a stock 5.3L crank.

This block is brand new and freshly finished for STD sized pistons, so I will get the pistons first and double check the fit. If they are fine for tolerance then I will keep the std bore. Ive measured the block many times and its std. I thought of boreing out the block to get the most out of the size but if I dont have to then I will leave it be and that saves me from having to have a machine shop bore and hone it out.

Also I will be installing all the bearings there is on this thing. Ill go to a junk yard for alot of other things...valve covers..exc

Im looking into the oil pan situation but a common search has tought me quite a bit about the depth issues some have with the pans.

I plan for this to be carburated. SO I will be in the market for a holley carbed intake manafold. And ignition system.

I thankfully I have a good holley 750 carb in my garage along with a summit brand fuel pump and regulator so that saves me some cost.

I do run into questions on the area of the pressed wrist pins. I was looking to buy forged rods that had them but I also see rods that dont. So I will continue to do my homework on these things.

I did see that I will need a crankshaft spacer to mate my Th350 tran up and that the mounting pads will fit with a little finess, to the ls flexplate? I have no flex plate as of now so Ill look into that as well and make sure I dont buy the wrong thing.

Are you swapping your turbo v6 to lsx or is this a different car?

Re: Fasteddis V6-LSX Build.

I'll keep that in mind. Right now I'm dumping alot into my v6. Adding a cage, rebuilding it with forged stuff, ptc converter exc.

But I do have a lsx block that I've been playing with. I got the stock crank 5.3l I have ls1 heads. I have a oil pump. Stock rods. I still need some things as I'd like to have the engine together but the time the snow flyes.

I need to find a set of forged pistons soon. I ordered all the bearings last Friday for the internals. I was going to get head studs till I saw the price for them... and here I thought 220 bucks was alot for my arp head studs for my v6.. lol

I'll update as I get some more done to it. My mom is literly holding on by a thread with her stage 4 cancer(in hospice). So right now it's tough. But ive always found working on cars to be relaxing durring sad and stressful times.
