88 Trans am GTA - LS3 EROD swap wiring sanity check
If anyone could help validate some of my wiring assumptions so far in this schematic:
https://www.digikey.com/schemeit/pro...-7TDJ6OG203Q0/
Swapping an LS3 poor mans EROD with T56 into an 88 GTA. Car was originally a 350 auto.
I've swapped a 4th gen gas take, rewired the racetronix hotwire kit so it is very simplified but still using its own 20amp power source and the erod power source is a signal instead.
Some wires i marked as deleted maybe i shouldn't have. This is purely for documentation so that when i start making the harness i don't have to make a lot of changes.

you can see my schematic changes around post 150... i did a standard GMPP LS376/480 but EROD is very similar. One thing i noticed on your schematic is that you will need a pull up resistor for the tach feed going from the ECM bulkhead connector to your gauge signal or it will be erratic

Re: 88 Trans am GTA - LS3 EROD swap wiring sanity check
Are you referring to this? http://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam...nd-17tooth.pdf
I have that in physical though it did get torn up in shipping but the digital has worked ok for me. If you have more info i'm always willing to read more.
SO far i feel like i've got most of it but some things feel a little weird.
Still need to figure out wiring up:
the AC compressor
the reverse lockout
generator singal (c100 F8) - i'm not sure if i can just tie that up to a postive signal or what?

Thanks for posting the schematic. I bought a speartech LS3 harness, and I need to connect it to the factory harness. This helps me understand the connections through the c100 and c207. I've never heard of a poor man' erod. Are you planning on buying a chevrolet performance ECM? I'm learning that there is more than one type of E38, that the 58x ecm has a base programming that is different from a tuning flash, VATS, and silver/gold blade throttle bodies. Geeez!

John,
I just bought the Erod LS3 ECM/Controller kit. I bought a L92 and converted it to LS3 trim. Saved about $4000 maybe more?

Re: 88 Trans am GTA - LS3 EROD swap wiring sanity check
I had some more time to play with the wiring.
I updated the schematic again, this is more final. The last thing i'm not sure about hooking up is the C100-F8 - brn charging cable... I believe this is going to erod ecu through the alternator connector but there is no output for my gauge. Can i just hook this up to battery positive?
Also, i'm not fond of going from EROD bulkhead VSS to C207... can i bypass the C207 by going to the C100 somehow? This is literally the only wire going from the engine bay to the C207. (The MIL and Ign wires are coming from erod harness on the C100 side of the firewall under the dash) which kind of makes this connection really out of place, since everything else will literally go to C100.

Re: 88 Trans am GTA - LS3 EROD swap wiring sanity check
C100 F8 is not used on my car, as in there never was anything on it even when stock.
The voltage gauge in the dash is already hardwired to a battery B+ somewhere in the car. I did not have to do anything special to make that gauge work.
I did find some wires on my '89 that allowed me to run VSS through C100.

Thanks Qwktrip, always on point. I've read your build a few times and yet i've still missed some of these details.

No problem. That thread is getting a bit unruly with nearly 600 posts. Even I am having a bit of a time finding stuff in it now.

Re: 88 Trans am GTA - LS3 EROD swap wiring sanity check
Nice diagram. Heres one I drew for 88-89's to go over every connection necessary for LS conversions. Since your Erod will already have a fuseblock, you can use any of the PNK wires to power it up
The voltage gauge is super simple to work with a conversion: Dont mess with it. It reads voltage from the gauges 12v IGN fuse and is untouched in any engine swap

Thanks Pocket!
If anyone is wondering and they have a 88~ delay windshield wiper motor setup, the connector for the wiper motor is 12059573 http://www.mouser.com/search/Product...r=829-12059573 - took me a good while to find it.
