Temperature Gauge Options for Third Gen LS1 Conversion

I need to install a temperature gauge in my third gen, which now has a `99 Ls1 in it. I have the 2 lead sensor/sender coming out of the side of the drivers side head. I have seen other threads on adding an aftermarket temperature gauge, but I would really like to avoid drilling and tapping anywhere into the engine if possible. My only requirement for the gauge would be that it fits into my pillar gauge pod. Ideas?
Thanks.

This fits in the LS1 head:

Put it in the head opposite the one that has the PCM sensor in it.

Then just make sure the temp gauge you get has 1/8" NPT threads on the sender. Auto Meter has several choices that meet that requirement.

Re: Temperature Gauge Options for Third Gen LS1 Conversion

Use a coolant temp sensor from a '98 LS1 Camaro. It retains the two pins you have today for the engine ECM, but has an additional 3rd pin that will drive your temp gauge. You can rob one of the unused electrical plugs from the EVAP portion of the LS1 engine harness, or buy a repair pigtail for a '98 Camaro temp sensor. I robbed the connector from the existing LS1 harness (see below).

So long as you have an obd port, these are freaking awesome, monitor anything you need for the engine so long as the ecu can read it.
