Basic Tuning in So-Cal - End of my LS Swap....
I hope this is ok for this forum as it seems like a fit.
I’m wrapping up some wiring here in the next few weeks on my LS Swap and need to locate some local tuning. I’d love to afford some of the high end quality dyno tuning, but with my shoe string budget, I just cant do it.
Any local guys good enough to help me out? How much am I looking at? Car is located in Santa Clarita.
Car is a 1987 Trans Am, Aluminum 5.3 from an Envoy, LS6 Intake from a 2004 GTO, LS2 cam and a 2000 F body PCM. Just looking to get the VATs turned off and the car drivable. Nothing fancy for now.
Assuming all is hooked up and all, car should “run for two seconds” then stall due to the VATS right?
Help a brother out!

Can't help you out on the tuning part, but here is some info on VATS:
"Assuming all is hooked up and all, car should “run for two seconds” then stall due to the VATS right?" No, see this link. It explains it better than I can.

I dont think your actual car has vats on a 87 t/a but i could be wrong. For the ls1 ecm if vats is still enabled then it would act as you described.
Aside from that i doubt your car would need much for tuning and should run decently. You need a few things changed but i dont see major dyno time based on your description. For the transam if you retain the factory gauges you need the minor things adjust like tach output, speedo output/cruise control if you have it setup.then the obvious stuff like rear o2 delete, vats delete, size of motor and which transmission you have and emissions delete if its not being used.

Agreed. Wish I could afford some quality $500 dyno tuning, lol, but shoudnt need much. Heck, I got a buddy giving me a nice laptop here soon. I'd love to get my hands on the software and be able to do this stuff my self.
Car doesn't have VATS, I'm referring to the PCM (PCM is from a 2000 LS1 Camaro that has VATS). I see ebay relays and gizmo's to override the VATS to the PCM but not sure if that's totally necessary.

Mail order or do yourself it's good investment
Ryan at Cunningham he in murrieta
There not that many lsx specifics tunners in SoCal
Ryan be best bet tho have to spend the $$$
Tune isn't something you want to be cheap on
Only bad thing is that he locks his tunes so you need to go back to him if you needed to retune

A few of my friends have mentioned CMS, small world. I looked at this pricing on this website and its just out of my price range for now. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Ryan and CMS.
