LT1 swap advice
Wanted to get some input. I have a line on a 96 camaro with a vortec supercharged LT1/t56 setup. Getting it reasonably cheap. I would like to swap it into my 86 camaro which currently has a carb'd 350. I know the basic mods I have to do to the car like notch the cross member and modify the passenger motor mount, trans crossmember, power steering and ac lines etc. My main concern is the harness. My car was originally a 4bbl car, so I don't have an fi harness or any of that fancy stuff. So straight off I'm probably going to get a painless harness or have one made from the doner other car.
Any other things I should watch out for? This is a pretty big undertaking for me, but I'm not the type to go the ordinary route. Thanks for any input!

Use your old SBC mounts
Wiring is easy, get a stand alone or have someone convert your old harness to stand alone
As far as conversions go, LT1s are very simple. Externally the same as SBC which your camaro came with, comes with T56 which has been WELL documented
Just go down the punch list
Mounts
EXH
Fuel
Wiring/tune
Hoses/lines
Misc

Re: LT1 swap advice
I have read that LT1 superchargers will hit the PS Box on a 3rd gen.. Requires mods to brackets or manual steering.
Don't take that as gospel and likely the least of your worries but do some searching if you're concerned.

Re: LT1 swap advice
If you had a LT1 harness/PCM and put it all together on your car, you'd be left with less than a dozen wires to figure out. You'd be missing your fuel pump but it's basically just power and ground run through a relay. You don't need to make it the same as 3rd gen wiring if you don't want.
Speedo on an 86 is likely cable driven. Easiest thing there is to get a newer electronic one. T56, LT1 PCM, proper tune and you don't need anythign fancy to make the speedo work. T56 is like 3 signal wires (speed sensor signal ,reverse light, reverse lockout)

Re: LT1 swap advice
Thanks for all the suggestions. I am picking up the car tomorrow, I guess wiring should be a hell of a lot easier since I'm not converting from a FI car. I plan on putting the 4th gen tank in, and wiring up the fuel pump and plumbing the lines with ease. I guess the biggest part is just getting started and seeing what problems I run into.

Re: LT1 swap advice
I found it a little more work than just saying "I'll just wire it up." I've been battling wiring for a while now. The Gen4 gas tanks have evap canisters on them and trying to figure out if my LT1 PCM will run it is killing me. I know I have to have my PCM modified to match the engine and other accessories and instruments. PCMforLess is going to love me.
