Anybody use the Hedman long tubes yet or am I going to be the guinea pig?
Anybody running the long tube LSX headers from hedman yet? I think Im going to even though they have the flat collector. I was going to get the 1 7/8 hawks but they are really expensive (1260) shipped to me and ground clearance isnt the best. The flat collectors may make installing a starter difficult, but the ground clearance and price might be a pay off. Also my tubular k member will make it even better. Im going to call hedman tomorrow and ask about starter and oil filter fitment. Ill keep you guys posted!!!

Keep us updated I am interested in those as well. I am glad they have a picture of them finally. I t does look like they would be close to the starter and oil pan but they should give extra ground clearance. Maybe a starter heat shield and some header wrap would help. I would be curious to see how they perform on the dyno as well with the unique flat collector vs. standard. BTW where did you find that picture?

I saw the car in person. They fit great, excellent ground clearance

I talked with Jeff today. Very nice guy. He is going to email me pics next week of the headers in their shop car. It's a third Gen formula. I think this is the route I'm going to go. I had hawks 1 3/4 back in 07 with my other build. I remember how bad they were banged up due to the bad clearance.

Go for it..i think they might perform well actualy.Im using the cheapy ls swap headers and even with the design flaws of the ports and the welds etc..i gained nearly 20hp/30tq over my stock 02 fbody manifolds. These look alot nicer(in pics atleast) and flow shouldnt suffer.I want to see the test of time on them and if they have any leaks/warpage like mine did.The starter I think would be ok but oil temps might be an issue.

Thanks for your input. A mini starter is in order. I talked to Jeff and he said with the coated headers heat isn't a problem. They have a track car with many miles and the heat isn't an issue. He did tell me that changing the oil may dip oil on the edge headers if you don't prepare for it. I may run a summit relocation kit . It's under 50 bucks.

Where do I get a set of those engine mounts for an sbc?
Edit:
I just traced all that back through everything and found them for sale for $300... Jeeez.

Filter is in same location. Starter is a pain. Those mounts are from BRP. I doubt they have them for an sbc though.

What's the part number on these?
I checked the hedman site (no pictures, really??) and then checked the hedman part numbers on Jegs and they have the same picture for the different long tubes, and they don't look like these ones.
What is the price on them and from where??

A side shot would be nice to see how low it fits from rail. I might just get the hawks 1 3/4 LTs again. Im not liking buying a new starter and how they sit under the car.

Re: Anybody use the Hedman long tubes yet or am I going to be the guinea pig?
I`am trying to decide between these and ssw 1 7/8 headers. Stainless headers would be nice but after the shipping and taxes Hedmans are ~1200$ and stainless steel works ~1700$
Are Hedmans coated from inside and how long are coated headers lasting? I don´t have starter motor and motor mounts yet so that´s no problem and oil filter relocation kits are just ~50$.

Some companies offer lifetime warranties on the coating, not sure what BRP offers. Driving conditions affect life, such as do you drive it in the snow/salt and leave it dirty or is this a garage queen that sees the sunny side of life only? Early example may get 5 years of abuse, the latter will likely never fail over the life of the car

Car will be driven mostly in summer weekends and sees sometimes rain. i don´t have garage but an carport. If they last over 5 years and could be recoated it would be great

Is the engine crooked or is that just the floorpans?
Anyone have some pictures of these on a car with SFC's?
Either inner or outer?

Well I'm not going to be the one to try these. I bought the Hawks 1 7/8 Stainless. I'm never going turbo and when I go stroker these will work well. These will be the last headers I buy for this car. Famous last words......

Hmmm, those are different, I like the clearance. I saw them on the BRP site but wanted to see pics. Might try them instead of their mid-length headers. The one thing I hate, gonna have to ditch the Spohn TA.

Does anyone have any front and side views of the long tubes showing ground clearance?

Dang, I wanted to use those but I'm not too sure with how low those sit... Canadian roads suck.

I have the hedman longtube headers, but I'm still a long way away from the install. This is a post I submitted a while back:

Hmm - I found this review on summitracing.com .
-------------------------------------------
Purchased for my 87 camaro with fbody ls1 -Factory k member -Umi performance solid mounts and brackets These do not work with factory k member regardless of what mounts used. I could not get them to bolt up to my motor when it was connected to my k member EVEN WHILE MOTOR IS ON A STAND. They interfere with the k member not with the mounts. Without the k member they bolt up but...... Header primary is 1" away from oil drain plug, so oil changes will cover your header in oil and splash everywhere. The collector makes reaching oil filter impossible without removing header. I Will be returning mine.
-------------------------------------------
I wonder if an oil filter relocation kit is necessary. The headers are supposed to be used with Hedman's LS engine mounts, and that probably solves the k-member interference issue.
