Mowtown LS-SB block…new to me
Who has seen this??

I'm already in the LSX camp, but be interesting to hear from folks that are thinking of this. Goes the LT1 manifold on a SBC 5-10 better.

interesting concept, if it were less expensive. i don't really see the benefit.
seems like you give up a lot of nice features that the LS platform has....and then you get to run a distributor on top of it.

These came out a few years ago and IMHO, they are a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Why not go LSx from the start? All things considered, a LSx swap where a SBC was is not a huge endeavor

Step price for block
Also those silly adapter plates are extra $$
Not to mention having to buy all internal parts and heads ,
Makes a lsx swap look cheap lol

Re: Mowtown LS-SB block…new to me
The advantages of the Motown LS Block are many:
• Simple, easy installation in any chassis set up for a traditional Chevy small-block
• No expensive custom motor mounts, oil pan or other materials required to swap in an LS engine into a vehicle set up for a traditional small-block
• Better windage performance than an LS-style block helps the engine make more power than conventional small block or LS-type engines of similar displacements
• Maintains conventional distributor-triggered ignition
(LS engines use a crank-triggered ignition)
I dont see the advantages being worth while. Anywhere a SBC fits, a LSx will fit
Adapter plate mounts are <$50 and the very nice cast oil pans are priced inline with aftermarket SBC pans
One would expect aftermarket blocks to have better windage passageways than production blocks, but excess windage leading to blowby never was a problem on the LSx platform
Why the love for the distributor? The OEM crank trigger is fantastic! For those that just dont trust them, the front mount and belt driven distributors are common
I dont see any of these points as major sales pitches, esp since most LSx engines can be had complete for less than that block. Comparing aftermarket, GM's LSX block, RHS, dart, etc are all comparable

I guess the main market is for circle track types who have fortunes tied up in SBC rotating assembly parts.
There are also folks who have spent their lives building race small blocks, they be more comfortable with what they know.
Did y'all notice, you use a two piece rear main seal?

Perhaps
Thought most circle/oval guys had to use iron heads which restricts them to the 99-00 6.0 irons. Do they even make a 2bbl intake for LSx?

Big buck Mod classes, and maybe Super Late Models? Some classes I've seen make your head spin with what they must cost.
