LT1 Vs single plane (on LT1)

Mods, feel free to move this if you feel it isn't proper.

I've recently begun contemplating building an LT1 and dropping it into a Firebird, heads cam intake, maybe stroker. I've seen many single plane conversions, but is the work worth the reward? I imagine the single plane wouldn't have any distribution problems the LT1 might, but that can be accounted for in the tune too, esp if I '0411 it.

Thoughts?

Re: LT1 Vs single plane (on LT1)

The wilder the combo the more superior a good single plane will become as long as the elbow used isnt tight radius that kills flow. That is if you use an elbow

My friends 406 miniram motor picked up 2 tenths and 2 mph with victor efi single plane and wilson 90 deg elbow and a huge lsx tb, i think 102mm. This is on a 521 whp 10.4 132 mph car

Edit. Single planes have longer runners so they also help the torque on lt1 intake motors

I wasn't thinking too crazy, Ai heads, big cam, and a 6 speed. 2 tenths and 2 MPH is nothing to scoff at.

2 tenths at 10 sec et's is a huge change but the combo is alittle aggressive. Street car but very mean.

If you went stroker and ai's best ported castings, i think a single plane would make sense.
450 whp plus.

If a stock cube or mild 383 build under 440-450 whp, ported Lt1 intake and large tb will work fine but i'd still like single plane potential for a better trq curve with a 355. 383 will make good torque by its stroke so flip a coin on intake choice

Re: LT1 Vs single plane (on LT1)

If your going AI heads and cam just get one of his ported intakes also.
tons of people makig BIG $s and running good times on a nice ported stock intake.

LT1 makes a good amount or trq already not like a L98 but still enough to move outa its own way.

My pos 97 puts down 321 rwtq with just bolt ons. stock tune still. Runs 13.1@107 with shitty 2.07 60fts.
