Re: 3rd gen oil sender in ls1

Not sure about the 3 wire lq sending unit. Most others ( I as well) just use the 99-02 truck or ls1 oil pressure sender, and the thirdgen oil pressure sender plugs right in and works as is.

Re: 3rd gen oil sender in ls1

I have it wired to the computer as it shows in the schematic does the computer not need the signal? If i switch senders it will be a single wire then correct?

PCM doesn't need to see oil pressure, atleast any of the ones I have done, don't. A single wire plug and sender is all you need, that will feed your guage directly through the c100 firewall connector

I used the stock 98 oil sender. Two wires, one to ground and the other to c100. Works great!

When I ordered the 98 ls1 oil pressure sensor it was for a v8 and it was a 2 prong.

How did you hook it up to the gauge? Did it work?
One prong to ground and the other to the gauge?

Re: 3rd gen oil sender in ls1

I have not hooked it up yet becuase i am still in the process of the swap, but i ordered the pigtail for the 2 prong connector from eficonnection. I am going to connect it to my 3rd gen gauge and ground it. Ill post up the part number for the pigtail later, I dont have it with me at this second.

Quoted from "Pocket"

Take a broken ls1 oil sender and drill/tap the alum base to 1/8npt

Alternately, find a m12 to 1/8npt adapter

Re: 3rd gen oil sender in ls1

I did as pocket said and I'm pretty happy!
Brock the ls1 sender tap it with a 1/8 npt tap and screwed it in worked perfect

Thats the 98 oil sender. Not sure why the PN keeps floating around, but it does. Works the same as later LSx senders. 99-02 Fbodys and 99-05ish trucks used 1 wire senders

98 senders use a 4wd vacuum sw connector from a S10. Top middle pin (A) is gauge, bottom grd. All single wire connectors use pin A for gauge. late 3rd gens use a similar connector with 3 wires. The ORN and GRY or TAN/WHT wires were a FP relay bypass and not used for the conversion

Later LSx and corvettes used sensors which are not compatible with 3rd gen gauges. Those are visually much shorter and used a connector similar to the TPS
