crazy low budget 4.8 swap.
ok i have been waiting to pull the trigger on my ls swap and i cant wait any longer, and friend is selling me a 4.8 for 200 bucks, i know this isnt the most ideal plan but itll work for now bc the trans is free. my first question is i have a 91 camaro 305 tbi/700r4. will the truck computer controll my 700r4?
i plan on using the vortec truck pump-also i know it will be close to being maxxed out after i do a cam swap- but i just want to be able to drive it until i boost it.
im going to cut the under side of my 4 inch cowl hood to fit the truck intake and accessories. ive looked at other swaps and i believe it will fit under my cowl, if not then ill "adjust" the alt bracket.lol
i already have camaro manifolds, and jeggs has a swap oil pan for 75 bucks.
if i use my trans i think i can have this car running and driving ls powered for less then 1,000.
i am going to make my own swap harness.

No on the trans, that pan won't work, hangs too low. You need the Fbody pan.

700R4 trans is non-computer controlled. I do not recommend using with with a LSx engine
Truck pump is ample for a mild NA LSx swap. IMHO its the best choice for most swaps since its a direct replacement for 3rd gens and provides ample pressure and flow. It will not support a decent turbo setup though
The muscle car oil pan will not work for 3rd gen swaps. To keep with your low buck build, use the truck pan, but cut it down to fit. If you can weld aluminum, this is a free mod. If not, find a Fbody pan
A totally stock 4.8/700R4 swap running for $1000 is feasible, turbo? No chance

Re: crazy low budget 4.8 swap.
eehhhh..... I dont think there is any chance of it happening for under 1k and it be safe. Hell i got at least $300 in the fuel system and i have nothing special, just a walbro and a corvette reg. Fuel line and fittings aren't cheap. You still need a tune $100, $200 fuel system (on the crazy cheap) $150 on fluids and filters,$40 for hoses, $20 throttle cable. Thats just a few things off the top of my head. I'm not tryen to down you its just amazing how much $$$ you will end up spending of stuff you didn't think about.
