Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
Not a toggle switch. It's a Hobbs switch. Pressure controlled at x amount of boost it completes in my case the ground circuit to turn the 2nd pump on. So it's a boost activated switch.

Well, I lost some interest in the build but things have been getting back on track. I bought a tig and some piping. Hope to get some good updates going.

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
Work! Decided I needed to cut up my core support to be more functional.
1x1 square tube for the upper radiator mount. I did finish up the turbo mount as well but ended up needing to readjust for some clearance issues.

Glad to see you're back on your project. I know how it is having to put our fun aside for a few months. I've been watching as I have a lq9 with a s480 I'm shoving in my T/A. My engine is still in the tear down phase but should be speeding up after I get back from vacation after the 4th of July.

Not much to report. Brainstorming mostly. I'll be working on the intercooler mount next. Don't mind the wiring. It's a giant mess!

Thanks! The TT2's are coming off actually. No real plans on A2W. I've already got money invested in this setup and I think it'll work fine. We'll see how she does once I get the bugs worked out.

It'll fit no problem. The only reason I cut it up was because it looked funny with the short radiator. This turbo is massive compared to an MPT76. Thanks! Should have some updates this weekend. Waiting for UPS to deliver some goodies.

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
Looks good. What flexcoupler is that? Be careful with the ones that arent lined inside. The braided/weave steel can come undone and basically explode outward closing off the exhaust passage lol. It happened to my buddy and they werent sure why it happened or when, just couldnt figure out why power fell off up top. Eventually tore down to find it but by then it was to late. I think that extreme backpressure wiped the thrust bearing and may also lead to the trans failure. Ugly stuff

Thanks, very familiar with the issue. These are lined. I bought them from zzp. I originally didn't want to use flex joints but I think it'll be a good decision once everything heats up.

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
Updates! Finally! After working OT like a madman and surviving this crazy *** winter, the build is back on track somewhat. I'm still working crazy hours but the parts are pouring in. I made a few changes.
Edelbrock Pro Flow intake over the ls1 I had.
Ditched the stock ecu/harness for Holley HP EFI.
The hotside I built, I didn't really care for, too many bends. Started over.
Also bought a new 9" Housing and center section, and a driveshaft from MWC.
Underhood wiring is getting changed around as well as the A/C delete box being removed in favor of a heater/ A/C delete panel.
Couple pics of my progress.
The Merge I'm currently working on. Instead of 45's off the manifolds, I'm just going to go with 2 90's into the merge. Short and simple. Its getting heat wrapped as well.

Rearend is a Moser unit with a backbrace welded on 35 spline axles. Yukon aluminum bolt through center w/ spool and 3.50 gear. 5/8th studs and strange brakes. Shouldn't have any issues with it!

Rearend found its way home this morning after setting the center section in place. I need to test fit my Spohn Drag Bar next which may mean modifying the back brace a little bit. We'll see. Next week I finally get a couple days off so I'm looking to make some better progress.

I dont have a stock hood but I'd be willing to make an educated guess and say no. It sticks up quite a bit near the throttle body.

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
Got quite a bit accomplished over Easter weekend.
Tablet mount setup. I'll be running the Holley EFI OS on a Dell Tablet with Windows 8. Should help with the tuning process and keeping tabs on things.
DS seat and cover mounted.
AC/Heat Delete Panel installed
Rearend is just about finished up besides brake lines. These Strange brakes are pretty sweet!
Also got the TH350 out and the TH400 in. Spohn mount and Strange chromoly DS also ready to rock. Its getting pretty close

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
well all on paper its turned up to push 10.4 lbs of boost its somewhere in the neighbor hood of 900 plus maybe 8 something to the rear wheels, its a full roller engine, msd electronics, 15.5 compression with boost, 9.1 just motor. I had to have a clutch made for it, kept blowing the others up. It doesn't move much, I have to run 114 plus octane or it detonates badly. It took me a year to build, wanted an 8-71 but my machinist said it wouldn't be proportioned right and look funny on a small block, so I opted for the 6-71.
Its in my 72 nova muncie 4 speed 10.5 rear end full spool, 456 gears moser axles with c clip eliminators.

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
like I said the numbers are just on paper, when I researched everything and did the numbers that's what I came up with, I have been asked to put it on a dyno and see exactly what it makes, me I am really not worried about it, I have a drag car that is where I make sure my numbers are correct, the Pontiac headed 406 pushes 863 hp with 813 to the rear wheels.
I have 255 70 15 rear tires, it will lite them up all the way to 4th if you can shift that fast. I put 12 miles on it last year. I have a 90 rs with a full roller 355 that I drive way more than the nova.
I really wanna put the blower in the Camaro. I really don't wanna cut the hood up for it to fit. The Camaro has a Strip Dominator high rise and has to have a cowl hood. I have issues with that as well, Kinda needs a filter on top to keep it clean though.

Pretty cool! Hoping to make that kinda power with this setup but, the rods would likely bend. I'm probably going to build a 370 this coming winter to throw more power at it!

Re: Iroc LQ4, S480 turbo build
I tell ya I have built several engines over the years, I have a 306, callies 300 in crank, groden 6.200 long aluminum rods, BRC pistons should be 14.5 to 1 with 58 cc heads, I have brodix cylinder heads 53 cc chambers, 2.110 valves 6.83 6.47 lunati solid roller cam, tunnel ram intake, crane roller rockers 1.7, it will be a high winder when completed, I have a 355 with a stock crank eagle rods, brc 14.5 comp pistons with 58 cc heads Brodix heads from 306 will be swapped if I decide to run it, comp full roller cam 5.75 5.75 lift, stefs aluminum pan, intake I need to buy, comp solid roller lifters, comp roller rockers 1.52,
those 2 engines are spare, then I have a full roller 355, comp cams 580 575 lift, comp roller rockers, speed pro flat top pistons, sportsman II heads 202 intake 160 exhaust, strip dominator intake comp solid roller lifters, eagle crank, eagle rods, This engine has been together for 8 years now and is still as strong as the day it was built.
everything runs off msd box and dist.
it takes time, I have been racing for 20 years now and have a blast doing it, the blower is my first and my last, the power is unbelievable. as I am sure the turbo set up is as well. Just cant get past the excessive heat and all the tubes that have to be run.

Decided to run no intercooler to save some fab time. The hood stack idea is more of a joke than anything. I'm probably gonna first fire it with the stack just for grins. Work is getting done. Looking at a first fire next weekend.

Looks awesome. Would you be able to ever make another set of them log manifolds? If so I'd be serious about picking up a set.
