I moved this to the LTX and LSX Engine Swap sub-forum, because this is basically an LS-type swap.
Read the LS1 swap sticky. There is a link within it for information regarding starting with a truck engine.
If the Silverado was a 4x4, you might want to look into swapping for a 2WD tranny. If the tranny isn't from an f-body, you'll need to do something about the torque arm mount.
More power is the typical stuff - cam, exhaust, heads (porting, for example), tuning. Gears and a higher stall converter make a world of difference on the butt dyno.
$1500 is a pretty tight budget. I assume that does not include the cost of the engine/transmission. If you don't go with long tube headers, you can probably make it. Some smart bartering of the parts you won't need will help.

Re: 5.3l vortec motor trany swap
the motor trans combo is a 2wd automatic is there no way to fab a torque arm mount using the f-body trans out of the 89 or maby fabricate 1 from aluminum plate and the budget starts after the donor truck that was rear-ended at only 40k miles btw so i got lucky on that 1 another question i dont have much exp with chassis so what about the rearend it is limited slip and i know it has 411s and exhaust plumbing is my biggest worry bc i have tryed to install long tube headers on an original 89 rs and it was pure hell so is there any special header and y pipe that i should use motor already has a custom ground cam as well as soon as he finds the spec sheet on it ill put them up will be posting pics of the build around march it is cold here and unless i can get my buddy to lend me his kerosene shop heater i wont be doing much to the car i might do a few coats of enamel on the block and remove the old motor and trany and wiring harness clean the engine compartment mostly buying parts for the build ohh and the trans is a 4L65E heavy duty trans so i would really like to keep the truck trans if at all possible

You can fabricate a torque arm mount if you like. Aftermarket torque arms with the mount off of the tranny are readily available.

ok guys i was verry wrong about the truck it is a 2500 silverado with a 6.0l v8 and has around 345ish hp i dont even know if it will fit into the engine bay with out me removing the ac compressor and relocating some stuff on the car itself pps i just bought a 4th gen gas tank from a 02 ss it should bolt right up and has a better f/p and it is plastic so even better i was reading up on it and ill need that for the different type of fuel induction setup any other surprises i might come by let me know

Re: 5.3l vortec motor trany swap
the 6.0 has the same outside dimensions as the 5.3. truck accessories will not fit without modification (noted in the lsx swap info that five7 already mentioned).
