plug n play harness

I'm wantin st swap a 5.3 truck motor into my 91 tbi camaro, if I bought a plug and play harness, would it really be plug and play? Would I still have to wire in my guages? Which computer would u use? Thanks

Re: plug n play harness

the typical plug and play harnesses are based off of the ls1 fbodys (but not always), so you'll need a pcm compatible with that setup. there are a ton of applications out there that use the same computer, just need to have it reflashed.

you'll still have to wire up the guages yourself, you'll need to get the schematic for your vehicle's C100 plug on the driver side

Re: plug n play harness

depends on the year, but yes. that's what i'm doing. truck harness repinned to a 99 camaro setup, having pcm reflashed to 99 camaro (or similar) programming to get started.

which one will work for you depends if you're using cable or electronic throttle body; pretty much any red/blue connector truck/car pcm will work for you if you're going cable with a flash. don't pay an arm and a leg for a vette/fbody pcm when the truck's are cheap and plentiful!

Re: plug n play harness

S10/van PCMs also work if the service number matches a LS1 car. 0411 was the most common PCM

99-03 trucks used PCMs that will do your job nicely. 04+ were DBW and some didnt have the IAC driver installed in the PCM. These are all green/blue

Different companies offer plug and play harnesses with varying definitions. Generally it means minimal connections such as one IGN 12v, one battery 12v and the fuel pump. Mine incorporate the 3rd gen harness completely so you literally take it out of the box and plug it in. No connections required

For what it's worth, if you are starting out with a green/blue harness (I am) ECM 12589161 can be found in most 04+ V6 full size trucks and as Pocket mentioned in S10/Vans. It's a DBW ECM but does have the ability to be programmed for cable as it contains all the necessary drivers.
