Re: LS1 manifolds on 4.8/5.3
the fbody manifolds are one of the 3 most common options that will work: 1. stock mani's (get some 01-02's for best flow) & custom y pipe. 2. hawk's/sw long tubes, custom y. 3. modify a set of 3rd gen sbc long tubes to line up with the gen III/IV exhaust ports.

I know there is a height issue with hood clearance (but that can be handled by a new hood), but that has nothing to do with fitting on the block.

How do you figure the CHASSIS into it? Hood I can understand, as I already mentioned, but the CHASSIS?
Besides...I've seen a 6.0 straight out of a truck into a 3rd gen, complete with pics, posted here on TGO.
EDIT: I see the "confusion" here. EXHAUST manifolds will not fit. Intake manifolds will. The OP only said "manifold" and "k-member". Intake yes, exhaust no.

Re: LS1 manifolds on 4.8/5.3
the intake is too tall to fit a stock hood, exhaust manifolds dump into the firewall (not as easy a fix)
....and it looks like i posted right while you were. problem solved

I'm planning on put a stock 6.0 LQ under my hood, but I know I'll hafta change the exhaust manifolds out. The accessories MIGHT fit under my new hood too.

I know that one member has a stock Truck motor with full accessories fitting under a Stock third gen hood with a BBC Hood Cowl on it. I think the standard width cowl hoods will end up being just slightly too narrow, but wider cowl hoods may fit the alternator under it.

BBC cowl hood? I'm curious - pics of this hood? You mention it being wider than a normal cowl hood....?
