carbed 4.8/5.3
Does anyone have any pictures of a carbed 4.8 or 5.3? I'm planin on swapin a 4.8 with ls1 stock manifolds and the msd kit to fire the coils, and 600 eldebrock. I'm goin to rebuild the 700r4 myself too. I have found a used 4.8 with 30,000 miles. I will be swapping the cam to a more aggressive one, 490 lift 278 diration. Please dnt give me the leave it fuel in jected crap, I'm not messing with that much wiring haha lol

It'll look the same as a carb'd LS1, except for the cast iron block.
I don't think you're going to avoid any mess with a carb.

Just looks like whatever intake and carb you go with, most dont mount the MSD box where i do, otherwise, i understand the not going EFI, more peak power for less money:

I just don't want to mess with all the wiring and tuning, this is on a very tight budget 2500 motor, cam, fuelk pump, oil pan everything. I'm a lot more comfortable with a carb. its gonna be a daily driver and I'm 19, i

2500 for the budget? You have it covered, no problem if you know where to find the parts.

Re: carbed 4.8/5.3
Never used a stock trans crossmember with a LS swap yet, but the 700R4 can work very well if you can get the lock up to work if indeed it is a lock up model.
Mileage would vary, would be around 100K, some times less, but i have a 177K mile 6.0 in my 2001 3/4 ton that put down 292 RWHP and 312 TQ on a dyno tune a couple weeks ago, so mileage doesnt hurt that much, my 89 RS 6.0 has a bit over 100K miles on it when i swapped it in with a cam.

Re: carbed 4.8/5.3
I'm carbing the car, so no computer, and I would rather have a 5 or 6 speed, aren't earlier 700r4s are non-computer comtrolled??? if I can afford it then ill be swaping in a t5 with the motor.

Yea, if you did make the T5 work, it would be on borrowed time as well as the 700R, the 700R can work if you build it, but for any real power, they are just going to last to long before something gives, anything i can afford that is.

Re: carbed 4.8/5.3
With a 4.8 or 5.3, we aren't talking about more power than a T5 or TH700R-4 can take.
With the longevity these engines exhibit, it doesn't make sense to pay a premium for a 30k engine. I've got a 147k 6.0, that was clearly not well-maintained, that still shows cylinder wall cross-hatch. My son picked up a 5.3 with 120k miles for $300 that he's going to put in his '96 S10 (his has to be an emissions-legal swap, so he needs to stick with EFI).
I still say it's wrong-headed to think a carb'd swap will be less hassle or cost less than an EFI set-up, but as always, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Re: carbed 4.8/5.3
If he is carbed already, then it is simply 600$ or so.....and WAY less headache for someone that knows nothing about wiring.
I have seen the T5 break behind stock 305s and i have seen them last behind my 500 HP 383s so it is just hit and miss.
The 700R can work, but for how long? Might be a long time, might not be, the 700R is just not that great of a trans with my experience, not till i have it rebuilt.
