Car: 1991 camaro RS
Engine: currently swapping 5.3
Transmission: 4l60e
Axle/Gears: soon to be 4:11
5.3 to carb swap?? is it possible?
has anyone swapped the efi for a carb on their 5.3 truck motor? i want to make a 5.3 carbed. could you use the coil packs or would you have to get new valve covers and run a old distrib. with the coil on top?? i dnt want to run a computer or anything...

As I understand it, there's 2 ways 1) there's a control box available from either MSD or Mallory to control the coil packs, or 2) you can get an intake from GMPP so that a standard vac adv dist can be stuck in. Check the www.LS1tech.com forums - there's a whole section there dedicated to carbing LSx motors.

You have to use either the gmpp or edelbrock ls1 carb intake and the controller for the coil packs that utilizes the crank and cam sensor to tell the coil packs to fire. I'd you have the entire setup available to keep it fuel injected you would be better off to swap the intake and accessories to f-body units.

I have done several of these swaps at my shop and the MSD box is the way to go. It is very straightforward and you can customize the timing curve! Email me if you have questions.
